Preparing An Educational Package for Spiritual Care Based on Islamic Doctrines for Cancer Patients' Families

Developing and providing spiritual care for families with cancer can play an important role in their well-being. The aim of this study is to first identify the factors that threaten the peace and spirituality in the families of cancer patients;Then, by developing an educational package of spiritual care based on Islamic teachings, to help and support these families in the resulting tensions to minimize their stress, negative feelings and belief problems. In order to formulate the family problems of cancer patients, a qualitative method was used. Semi-structured interviews were used to collect data and contextual theory approach was used to analyze the data. The statistical population of the study was twenty families of cancer patients in the chemotherapy center of Shahid Ayatollah Dr. Beheshti Hospital in Qom.Participants were selected by purposive sampling method. Then, verses and narrations related to each problem were collected and analyzed with the underlying theory approach, and based on that, the goals and techniques of the training package sessions were developed.The research findings showed that the family problems of cancer patients included feelings of emptiness due to the meaninglessness of life, loss of hope, impaired motivation and damage to fundamental religious beliefs. Then, a spiritual care training package based on Islamic teachings was developed for the families of cancer patients, including the goals, techniques and homework of each session.This package includes ten sessions, ninety minutes. The goals and techniques of this package were based on verses and hadiths.
