The study of obstacles to political development in Iran with an emphasis on the lack of participation of academic elites: a combined study

The purpose of this study is to study the barriers to political development in Iran with emphasis on the non-participation of academic elites. The general design of this research is a combination of exploratory-sequential (qualitative-quantitative) strategy. In the qualitative part, content analysis method and in the quantitative part, descriptive and inferential statistics such as frequency and percentage and t-test of one sample have been used. The scope of research and its statistical population includes professors of universities in Larestan region (Payam-e-Noor universities of evaz center, Payam-e-Noor of Lar branch, Islamic Azad of Larestan branch, Larestan medical sciences, Gerash medical sciences (N = 120).The qualitative part was performed using purposive sampling method and theoretical saturation technique (20 members) and the quantitative part was done by random selection of 90 faculty members of the mentioned universities. Data collection tools are semi-structured interviews and researcher-made questionnaires extracted from interviews in qualitative-quantitative stages, respectively. According to the results of content analysis in this study, ten basic themes were obtained: cultural and educational inadequacy, distorted attitudes toward political development, poor media information, employment status and inefficient economic policies of governments, feelings of relative deprivation, weak social capital, historical barriers. , The weakness of civil society and political factors, and finally, the four themes of organizing cultural barriers, economic barriers, social barriers and structural barriers were extracted.The results of the quantitative section show that cultural, economic, social and structural barriers are significantly away from the acceptable and desirable level of adequacy.
