Using of IDEAL Discharge Model in Medication Adherence of Cardiac Patients: A Review Study
medication adherence is one of the most critical issues in the physical and mental illness treatment field that has received little attention in Iran. Low adherence to medication leads to poor clinical outcomes in patients and increases mortality and healthcare costs. One of the components that can affect the patient's adherence to medication is the discharge program. The purpose of this article is to review of medication adherence of cardiac patients using the IDEAL discharge model.
This review article, was searched in the databases of the Nursing Index, PsychInfo, Proquest, and Scopus. Articles were searched from 1990 to 2020 using the keywords of medication adherence, patient, discharge model, and IDEAL.
This study reviewed 10 of the 26 articles that met the inclusion criteria. The data indicate a positive and significant relationship between the use of the IDEAL discharge model and the medication adherence of cardiac patients. Discussion and
It is suggested that education and use of the IDEAL discharge model be considered by executive and educational managers in the field of nursing so that in the coming years we will see an increase in patient medication adherence and reduce problems caused by ignoring this importance in society.
