Identifying key performance indicator in measuring the maturity of project management with BWM approach

Every organization has a defined goal to achieve, and this holds true for projects as well. An important aspect of project and organizational management is accurately defining goals and measuring and evaluating performance. To evaluate performance, it is necessary to utilize appropriate metrics and key performance indicators (KPIs). Determining the right objectives and measuring the progress of organizations or projects is often a challenging task for managers. The aim of this study is to identify key success factors in measuring project management maturity using the best-worst approach. To achieve this, after a thorough review of theoretical foundations and research background, the dimensions and key components of project management maturity assessment are presented. Subsequently, employing the best-worst method and surveying university professors who are well-versed in the concept of project management maturity, as well as twenty senior experts in project management from Iran Khodro Industrial Group, the weighting and prioritization of each dimension and component of the research are conducted using the best-worst method (BWM). The key performance dimensions of project management maturity are identified in four dimensions and fifteen components. The results obtained from the weighting and prioritization of dimensions using the best-worst method showed that the dimension of effectiveness performance ranked first, followed by the dimension of project management maturity, the dimension of quality performance, and the dimension of budget and time performance, respectively. Additionally, ranking was performed separately for each component of each dimension in this study. The findings of this research can benefit all project managers and individuals interested in project management maturity assessment in understanding the key dimensions and components.
