The Relationship between Cultural Intelligence and Ethnocentrism

The current study was conducted to measure the level of cultural intelligence and determine its relationship with the level of ethnocentrism among students residing in the dormitories of Malayer University, including both governmental and self-governing dormitories. The research was carried out using a survey method and questionnaire technique. The statistical population included all non-native students residing in dormitories in 1401, with a sample size of 350 people selected using Cochran's formula through random sampling .The descriptive results of the research indicate the desirability of the research variables, especially the cultural intelligence variable and its dimensions, with students exhibiting a high average level (43.73) of cultural intelligence. Additionally, their level of ethnocentrism was estimated to be lower than the average level (56.49). The results of the correlation test illustrate a significant and inverse relationship between cultural intelligence (-0.50) and the level of ethnocentrism. Moreover, a significant correlation between the dimensions of cultural intelligence (cognitive, metacognitive, motivational, and behavioral) and ethnocentrism has been confirmed. The regression results indicate that, among the independent variables of cultural intelligence dimensions, behavioral cultural intelligence variables with a beta value of 0.29 and cognitive cultural intelligence with a beta value of 0.27 have contributed the most to the explanation of the dependent variable. Finally, the total variables included in the regression model have been able to explain 32.4% of the variance or changes in the level of ethnocentrism among the students.
