Assessing ACRL Visual Literacy Competency Standards for Higher Education(Case: Faculty Members of Islamic Azad University)

Visual literacy is the ability to identify information needs, as well as to search & find information, interpret and analyze the information presented in the form of visual materials and media. This study was aimed to survey the status of Visual literacy of faculty members of the Islamic Azad University of Hamedan.

This is a descriptive survey. Statistical population includes all faculty members of Hamedan Islamic Azad University; i.e. 245, out of whom 148 people were chosen using Morgan and Kerjsi table with simple random method. The measurement tool was a 24-item researcher-made questionnaire. The content validity method was Face validity and Cronbach's alpha test (0.941) was used for reliability.

Faculty members have enough visual literacy skills (nearly 69.4 %). Moreover, they show visual concept: 72.4 %, access and exploring: 69.8 % , interpretation of meanings: 6.70 %, image evaluation: 68.2 %, effective use of images: 68.4 %, design and create images: 66% and scientific ethics :72/6 %.

Scientific ethics in visual literacy was top priority for faculty members, then come discovery, access and exploration, assessing the effective use of images, and design and creation of images respectively.
