Political Protection of the rights of minorities among the Kurd with focus on the Iraqi Kurdistan region

During these recent years, the population of the Kurdistan region has increased every year and the national and ethnic structure in the Kurdistan region has diversified and multiplied, including a) Kurds as the majority, b) Turkmen, c) Syrian, d) Armenians and e) Other groups. After the establishment of the Kurdistan Regional Government in 1992 as a structure and later recognized by the 2005 Iraqi Constitution as a region and state, the rights of minorities were considered as a political and legal issue. This article aims to examine the protection of the rights of minorities in the Iraqi Kurdistan region and seeks to answer the question: What is the legal status of the protection of the rights of minorities in the Iraqi Kurdistan region? This study follows the descriptive and analytical method of the hypothesis that the Kurdistan Parliament in order to protect and guarantee the political, civil, social, cultural and economic rights of minorities and to ensure the spirit of peaceful coexistence and respect and peace among the citizens of Kurdistan Region No. 5 of 2015 relates to the Law on the Protection of the Rights of Minorities in Iraqi Kurdistan, which consists of three sections and nine articles. The findings of the study indicate that it has been recognized in terms of multiculturalism in the Kurdistan region and the laws of Iraq, and this issue has been considered in the religious, national and linguistic fields.
