Examining exceptional children (mental retardation) and teaching social skills as their basic need
The purpose of the present study was to investigate mentally retarded children and the methods of teaching them social skills.
For this purpose, we have used a review and documentary study method. In this way, we have studied the articles, books and background of the research and then collected and used the information needed to achieve the research goal.
The obtained results indicate that the methods of games, storytelling and multimedia training are suitable methods for teaching social skills to mentally retarded children.
Learning social skills in order to live in society is one of the basic needs of every human being. Meanwhile, mentally retarded children who are weak in social relations and learning these skills due to various reasons are given more attention. People who have some kind of disorders and social interaction is more difficult for them, if they are deprived of social skills, it will be much more difficult for them to live and interact in society. Using these obtained methods makes learning social skills easier for mentally retarded children and keeps them away from the consequences and problems that plague them.
