Comparing the Effectiveness of Prevention of Bullying and Social Skills Training on Empathetic Behaviors and Academic Procrastination of Bullying Students

Abstract:
Introduction

The purpose of the research was to compare the effectiveness of Prevention of bullying training and social skills training on empathetic behaviors and academic procrastination of bullying students.

Method

This semi-experimental pre-test-post-test-follow-up study was conducted with a control group. The statistical population included all male students of the first secondary level in Isfahan city. 45 of them were selected in a targeted manner by scoring in Splich and Hart's bullying questionnaire (2001) and assigned to three experimental and control groups. Experiment one group received Akbari Belotabandang Prevention of Bullying training (2019) experiment two group received Sadr et al.'s social skills training (2010) and the control group did not receive training. The students completed the questionnaires about the empathic behaviors of Wozen et al. (2015) and the academic procrastination of Solomon and Roth Bloom (1984) in the pre-post-test and follow-up stages.

Results

The results of variance analysis with repeated measurements showed that both Prevention of bullying training and social skills had a significant effect on improving academic procrastination and empathic behaviors in students, and the effects remained in the follow-up phase, but Prevention of bullying training in academic procrastination. It was more effective than teaching social skills.

Conclusion

Therefore, it seems that the Prevention of bullying programs and social skills training in counseling centers and schools can prevent and improve academic procrastination and empathetic behaviors in bullying students.
