The Relationship between Mental Health and Attitude towards Nowruz

Nowruz Eid has been one of the highest and most important occasions for Iranians since the past. As the New Year approaches, Iranians clean their houses and buy new clothes and accessories. On the eve of Nowruz, almost all people are enthusiastic to perform rituals related to Nowruz. The aim of  current research is to examine the relationship between people's mental health and the enthusiasm of Nowruz and performing rituals related to it. The tools used are the general health questionnaire and the researcher-made questionnaire of attitude towards Nowruz. The statistical population consists of men and women over 18 years who have mobile phones, are active in telegram platform and are in the access of researcher. The sample consists of 188 men and women who responded to telegram questionnaires in an available manner. Pearson's correlation coefficient was used to analyze the data. The results showed that there is a significant negative relationship between mental health and attitude towards Nowruz. That is, the less mental health people have, the less enthusiasm they have for Nowruz. There is a significant negative relationship between the emotional scale of Nowruz attitude questionnaire and mental health, but there was no relationship between the cognitive subscale and mental health. There was a negative and significant relationship between all subscales of mental health with the emotional scale, but none of the subscales of mental health were significantly related to the cognitive subscale. It can be concluded that people with higher mental health have a more positive attitude towards and are more enthusiast to Nowruz.
