Analysis of psychometric properties of the Persian Version of Brief Multidimensional Measurement of Religiousness/ Spirituality and assessing Farhangian University students’ religiousness/spirituality
The aim of the present study was twofold: to investigate the validity and reliability of the Brief Multidimensional Measure of Religiousness/ Spirituality (BMMRS) based on a sample of Iranian college students; and to assess students’ religious/spiritual commitment.216 available students at Farhangian University (175 girls and 41 boys) completed the BMMRS questionnaire which contains twelve subscales categorized into four areas of religious, spirituality, religious/spirituality, and other measures. Cronbach Alphas indicated that the measure and its subscales had acceptable reliability. Evidence of construct validity was obtained through correlating the scores of the BMMRS with Religious Commitment Inventory (RCI). Also, scores obtained from the subscales were correlated with total scores, indicating that the measure had a good construct validity. Confirmatory factor analysis suggested a seven factor solution, labled as: (1) experiential comforting faith; (2) negative religious interaction; (3) private spirituality; (4) divine punishment; (5) congregational support; (6) private religious practices; and (7) forgiveness. Results revealed that students from different fields scored significantly differently on the measure.
