Online partial discharge monitoring, among both online and offline techniques, plays a significant role in the monitoring system by helping to minimize power system component failures. Therefore, a comprehensive analysis is essential to comprehend the advancements and patterns in theory and practice. Online partial discharge current monitoring techniques are vital for high voltage equipment in power systems. This study offers an extensive literature review of online partial current discharge monitoring techniques applied to various high voltage electrical components in power systems. Lastly, an intelligent technique that utilizes a wireless sensor board for partial discharge monitoring is presented. This intelligent framework for partial discharge monitoring can accurately estimate insulation loss in high voltage equipment and enhance the overall performance of power systems.
