Abstract:
To get a vivid view of an event, it is often recommended to refer to the works whose authors were contemporary with it. Searching in the earliest works that record Imam al-Husayn's movement prove that his sublime aims were higher by far than simply treading a mystical path or following a martyrdom-only route. Whether or not the Kufans had invited him, he would never recognize Yazid: there was no other choice but martyrdom for the sake of safeguarding Islam.
