A Comparative Analysis of the Social Interpretational Approach of Sayyid Qutb in Fi Zilal al-Quran and Muhammad Jawad Mughniyah in Al-Kashaf with a Focus on Family
The social interpretation approach to the Quran has emerged as a significant innovation among interpreters in recent centuries. Proponents of this approach seek to extract solutions to contemporary social issues and draw guidance from the Quran to address prevailing challenges. In this context, the perspectives of two prominent Islamic thinkers and advocates of contemporary Islamic movements, Sayyid Qutb in his interpretation "Fi Zhilal al-Quran" and Muhammad Jawad Mughniyah in his interpretation "Al-Kashaf," merit reexamination. This study employs a descriptive, comparative, and critical analytical approach to investigate the social interpretation approach of these two interpreters, focusing specifically on the theme of family. The central research question delves into the role of family in the social interpretation approach of Sayyid Qutb in "Fi Zhilal al-Quran" and Muhammad Jawad Mughniyah in "Al-Kashaf," and explores the underlying motivations for adopting this interpretive approach. The findings of the study reveal that both thinkers, witnessing the shortcomings prevalent in Islamic societies, sought to address these deficiencies through Quranic guidance, perceiving the establishment of an Islamic government as the sole path to Muslim liberation. A thorough examination of their interpretations clearly demonstrates the emphasis both interpreters place on the pivotal role of family in achieving this objective.
