Barriers to Complying With Professional Ethics in Midwifery According to the Viewpoint of Midwives Working in a Hospital in Jahrom, Iran
Compliance with professional ethics is one of the most important expectations from the healthcare team, which has a significant impact on the treatment process. The present study aims to find the barriers to compliance with professional ethics in midwifery according to the viewpoint of midwives working in a hospital in Jahrom, Iran.
This descriptive cross-sectional study was conducted in 2023 on 51 midwives working in Motahari Hospital affiliated to Jahrom University of Medical Sciences. The data collection tools included a demographic information form and a questionnaire measuring barriers to professional ethics in midwifery. Data were analyzed in SPSS software, version 22 using inferential statistics.
In the managerial domain, "Lack of effective control and supervision by midwife managers" was the most important barrier (50%). In the environmental domain, "Lack of suitable facilities and equipment in the department " was the most important barrier (37.3%). In the personal/care domain, "not providing basic needs such as sufficient income or adequate rest" was the most important barrier (17%).
For compliance with professional ethics in midwifery, midwifery managers in Iran should pay special attention to improving their control and supervision. Additionally, there is a need for immediate attention and action for improving the facilities and equipment and address the basic needs of midwives.
