Abstract:
Pottery is one of the most commonly discovered artifacts at ancient sites and tepes, providing a significant insight into human and cultural interactions. In some areas of South Khorasan, a distinctive type of pottery, primarily associated with the historical period and known as grooved pottery of Sistan, is prevalent. This type of pottery is not only found in the Sistan region (spanning parts of Iran and Afghanistan) and areas of South Khorasan but also exhibits considerable diversity, in terms of shape and groove patterns. Grooved pottery has been popular in the region over an extended period, from prehistoric times to the Islamic era. This research aims to examine and introduce various types of grooved pottery found in South Khorasan, and explore the distribution of this pottery in the surrounding areas and their impact on the cultural of Iran.
