Abstract:
During the war with Russia in Fath-Ali-Shah era, Abbas-Mirza, the crown-prince, decided to equip with the European way. His efforts led to a new phenomenon: modernity. However, the Iranians' eager for traditions on the one hand and their suspicion of foreigners on the other hand led to two main approaches: one group tried to be equipped with the necessary tools -technology - by ignoring the nature of modernity, and the other group tried to localize both substantive and technical aspects of modernity by choosing the middle way. Localizing an alien process is possible only after understanding its nature based on common sense. But the modernization of Qajar dogma was based on mere objectivity and violated the purpose. Adjustment needed to get rid of the beneficiaries of ineffective traditions; But the Qajar modernists, with their conservation class affiliations, benefited from the status que and worried about their traditional base, therefore, they preferred to emphasize objectivity and a vertical and authoritarian approach. According to the findings of this research, it is not possible to efficiently enjoy the technologic gifts of modernity without considering its nature and social-cultural reinterpretation of modernity based on local requirements. The research method is analysis using library resources.
