Investigation of the Elderly Women Practice in Nursing Home Regarding to Prevention of Lower UTI Infection, 1383

Abstract:
Introduction
The incidence of lower urinary tract infection in women is more than men because of anatomical differences. The research showed one of every five women was affected with lower UTI during her life and 3% of these women are affected more frequently. Lower UT1 is the most important cause of acute bacterial sepsis in women older than 65 years old. Elderly women often have difficulties in complete emptying of the bladder and urinary stasis. In institutionalized elderly women with immobility, high incidence chronic illness, indwelling catheters and the risk of lower UT1 rises dramatically. Therefore, we carried out a study titled on investigation of the elderly women practice in nursing home regarding to prevent lower UTI infection. Methods & Material: This study was a descriptive study. Samples of this study included all of samples in a nursing home. Data was gathered by means of questionnaires included demographic characteristics and 20 questions women's practice. Questionnaires were filled in by interview.
Results
Finding showed that the average age of samples was (7.46 year), illiterate (52%), economic status was moderate (56%). They had physical (100%) and with social problems (76%). Related to questions, finding showed that most of women (80%), didnt wash their hands before voiding, didnt clean the perineum and urethral meatuse after each bowel movement (100%) didnt clean urethral meatuse from front to back, (76%) didnt do hand washing after toilet, (68%) were very exhausted (physically and psychologically) and total sample (25%) had weak practice in relation to preventing lower UTI infection.
Conclusion
The results of the present study showed that the practice of elderly women in nursing home wasnt good, therefore in order to help elderly women to prevent or manage a recurrent UTI, the health services needs to implement teaching that meets individual women's needs and decrease staffing costs.
