Validating the Scale Measuring Attitude toward Smoking among Students

n order to validate the Attitudes towards Smoking Scale (ASS), 606 randomly selected students of Shahid Chamran University and Islamic Azad University, Arsenjan branch, participated in this study. Data were indicative of a high level of Internal Consistency of the ASS. All the items of the scale were significantly correlated with the total score of the scale (P < 0.0001). A factor analysis of ASS by using the Principal Components Analysis (Varimax Rotation) resulted in four factors that account for 53.39% of the variance; the first factor accounts for 28.36% of the variance. This research showed that for measuring people’s attitudes toward smoking, researchers can rely on ASS.
