The Subject of Philosophy in the Thought of Aristotle, Ibn Sina and Ibn Rushd
Author(s):
Abstract:
The question of the nature of philosophy’s subject – matter belongs to the area of theory of knowledge. Aristotle has opened a way towards unity and distinction of sciences and he puts a logical criterion as a methodic recommendation in front of scientists in the problems of any science one should speak of its essential accidents.Ibn Sina, following Farabi’s work, develops the above – mentioned criterion and its derivatives and in practice when dealing with scientific disciplines of any sort he shows to be commited to logical criteria and then basing himself on these criteria determines the subject of philosophy.Ibn Rushd mainly plays no role more than the commentator of Aristotle and explains Aristotelian logical rules on the theory of knowledge as he himself has presented them. The basic difference between Ibn Rush and Ibn Sina is that Ibn Rushd in practice when he deals with various scientific branches, including philosophy, pays no attention to the rules of scientific theory and immediately deals with the problems.The application of logical rules in the theory of knowledge to all that is considered philosophical problems is challengeable. In order to fill the gap between the place of definition and the place of the realization of sciences in general and philosophy in particular, attempts has been made by Ibn Sina.
