Microfacies and Biofacies of Pabdeh Formation (Late Paleocene- Early Oligocene) in NW
In this research Pabdeh Formation (Late Paleocene- Early Oligocene in age) has been studied in NW Zagros Basin based on field observations, petrographic and trace fossil analysis. Pabdeh Formation in studied area comprises alternation of thin to thick limestones and dark to light gray shale beds, rich in planktonic foraminifera. Seven microfacies assemblages were recognized (from base to top): alternation of Purple shale and thin bed calcimudstone (MF.1), bioclastic calcimudstone- wackestone alternating with shale (MF.2), intense bioturbated calcimudstone (MF.3), alternation of shale and calcimudstone (MF.4A), alternation of wackestone and packstone (MF.4B), bioturbatedgray shale (MF.4C), packstone with glauconitized and phosphatized bioclastic particles (MF.5), medium bedded calcimudstone (MF.6A), dolomitized calcimudstone- wackestone (MF.6B), medium bedded wackestone- wackestone with parallel alignment of particles (MF.6C), intense bioturbated packstone- calcimudstone (MF.7A), calcimudstone- wackestone with benthonic and planktonic forams (MF.7B) and thick bedded bioclastic peloidal wackestone- packstone (MF.7C). The obserued ichnogenus in this formation include chondrites, zoophycos, arenicolites and planolites, which are the most abundant in MF7.
