Fundamentalist discourse and its assessment from the viewpoint of the supreme leader

Abstract:
The Islamic revolution of Iran has experienced different discourses including constructionist discourse and reformist discourse. With the coming to power of the ninth govt., a new discourse emerged that laid emphasis on the observation of Islamic and revolutionary principles and values, particularly justice. This new discourse can be called 'justice oriented fundamentalist discourse'. It goes without saying that this discourse, just like any other discourse, has its own strengths and weaknesses. To explain the strengths and weaknesses of this discourse might promote the aims of the Islamic revolution increasing the Islamic system's efficacy. The present paper tries to explain fundamentalist discourse in the ninth govt. from the point of view of the supreme leader. In addition to assessing this discourse from his perspective, it will elaborate on his opinion on the correct standards for fundamentalism and the guidelines he has given to the ninth govt. The research shows that the supreme leader has specially backed up fundamentalist discourse, considering it as reviving the ideals, values and slogans of the Islamic revolution. However the supreme leader has not ignored the weaknesses of this discourse, just as he did not ignore the weaknesses of the previous discourses, giving suggestions for its improvement.
