Explanation of the Semantics Field of Ṣamt (Silence) in Nahj al-Balāgha

The term silence has a semantic system that the elements related to it in the historical course of its literal meaning have to be extracted and its various evidences in different religious, scholarly, and ethical texts to be clarified terminologically in its evidential transformation. In view of this issue, the writer has regarded ṣamt or silence in terms of shared meaning and proceeded to explain its relation to such terms as ḥikmat (Divine wisdom), ḥilm (forbearance), and ‘ilm (knowledge). In conclusion, he has analyzed the semantics field of the term ṣamt and its synonyms in Nahj al-Balāgha.
