Study of personality patternes in patiens with gender identity disorder (GID)
Abstract:
Background and Aim
Personality assessment in patients with GID is effective in their diagnosis, prognosis and treatment. Surgery in patients with comorbid personality problems may be more worth their condition. This project appraised the personality patterns of GID patients. Materials and Methods
This was a descriptive-cross sectional study. The subjects of the project were 36 GID patients (22 female, 14 male). They were referred to the clinic of Tehran Psychiatric Institute & Mental Health Research Center for psychological assessment by Legal Medicine Organization. The subjects were selected using convenience sampling and evaluated by DSM based clinical interview and MCMI-II. Data were analyzed by descriptive statistical methods. Findings
The most frequencies of dual symbols were 75(obsessive-narcissistic,4 cases) & 17(schizoied-compulsive,2 cases)combinations. The most frequencies of personality patterns in GID patients were narcissistic(22%) and compulsive(29%). Conclusion
The frequency of personality patterns GID patients is high and this should be taken into account in the assessment and treatment planning of GID patients.Language:
