The Role of Traffic Regulations Education on Traffic Performance of Pre-school Children in Tehran (2007)

Education is one of sides of traffic triangular and its basic one. Principle of education in traffic consists of a wide range of traffic educations, such as, classical education of kindergarten, pre-school, school, … periods, traffic culture education via mass media and professional education of using ways and highway. In the present paper, based on the assumption of risk possibility for children in traffic arena and necessity of improving or changing the behavior of this group to maintain their safety and security, some issues such as the role of education on traffic performance of pre-school children will be considered. Since the performance of individuals is as a result of external stimulants from society, the research is divided into three parts of knowledge, behavior, and traffic concepts. For each part, specific measurement tool and questionnaire are provided and practical aspects of children behaviors are observed in a simulated environment. The children under investigation were chosen from per-school stages in Tehran via random cluster sampling. Findings of the present survey are as follows: Education has significant direct impact on children knowledge of traffic risks; education has significant direct impact on children traffic behavior; education significant direct impact on children understanding of traffic concepts.
