Agronomic traits of wheat and Cuminum cyminum L. in monoculture and row mixcultre

Abstract:
Relative efficiency of cumin-wheat intercropping was evaluated in Islamic AzadUniversity, Eghlid branch in 2009. The treatments were: 1- intercropping the everyother row of each crop with relative density of 50:50 percent, 2- wheat-cuminintercropping with relative density of 75:25 respectively, 3- wheat-cumin intercroppingwith relative density of 25:75 respectively, 4- pure wheat with appropriate density and5- pure cumin. The experimental design was randomized complete block design withthree replications. The measured parameters were harvest index, grain yield, biologicalyield and LER of both crops and cumin- aldehyde content of cumin seeds. The resultsindicated that grain yield was higher in 50:50 and 75:50 wheat-cumin treatments thanthe others. There werent significant differences between treatments in HI, no. of grainsper ear and wheat grain weight. The 50:50 and 75:25 wheat-cumin treatments showedhigher cumin grain and biological yield, no, of umbels, seed weight and cuminaldehydecontent. The LER also was higher in these treatments compared with theothers. There werent significant differences between 25:75 wheat-cumin and purecumin and wheat treatments in yield and its components.
