A comparision of the effect of clonazepam and ondansetron on post operation nausea and vomiting in middle ear surgeries

Nausea and vomiting control is one of the most important concerns of anesthesiologist inpost operation periods. Theae are different management for post operation nausea and vomiting including antihistamins, deropridole, metoclopromide, ondansetron,.... Serotonin receptors antagonist (ondansetron, granisetron) can completely achieve this goal, but is extensive. Cortons are effective for management of post operation nausea and vomiting,but have special sides effects. Clonazepam is effective on decreasing post chemotherapy nausea and vometing. This study designed to compare effect of clonazepam consumption in post operation nausea and vomiting with ondansetron. In this randomized clinical trial study, 180 patients, with ASA Class I and II, elected for middle ear surgeries, were selected. They enrolled according to inclusion and exclusion criterias, and were randomized into three groups that each group contain 60 patients. In clonazepam group, the patients were received 2 mg clonazepam, Po, 2 hours pre operation. In ondansetron group, the patients were received 4 mg ondansetron, IV, after intubation then and control group, the patients received placebo. Post operation nausea and vomiting in recovery room, till 6 hours and 6-12 hours in ward was detected according to score. There was no significant difference according to age, sex, weight and administration of clonazepam or ondansetron in decreasing of post operation nausea and vomiting in three groups (p>0.05). Administration of oral clonazepam compare to intravenous ondansetron or oral placebo in middle ear surgeries, was not decrease rate of post operation nausea and vomiting.
