Aaryngeal mask airway ease of insertion: Comparision between low dose cisatracurium and succinylcholine

Laryngeal mask airway is a supraglottic device that successful insertion of it needs enough depth of anesthesia, acceptable of jaw relaxtion, suppression of airway reflexes for prevention of cough, laryngospasm and gaging. Purpose of this research is to study comparision between low dose cisatracurium and succinylcholine in laryngeal mask airway ease of insertion. In a double blinded clinical – trial, 150 ASA I-II (20-70) years patients undergoing elective Trans Urethral Lithotripsy (TUL) were randomized to three (50) groups: group (1) cisatracurium, group (2) succinylcholine and group (3) placebo. The same manner of induction of anesthesia was performed. Premedication with midazolam, fentanyl and propofol. Then injected to group (1): cisatracurium (0.04-0.05 mg/kg), group (2): succinylcholine (0.5 mg/kg) and group (3): Normal saline. After that laryngeal mask airway was inserted by a blinded resident of anesthesiology. The anesthesiologist who injected medication assessed the following insertion condition: jaw relaxation, biting, gaging, cough, laryngospasm, number of attempts and movements at insertion. Hemodynamic changes and Sao2 were measured and evaluated. The gathered data were analyzed by the SPSS software (15), using one-way ANOVA, LSD and Pearson Chi- square. There were no differences between three groups in laryngeal mask airway ease of insertion conditions (p>0.05). Hemodynamic changes (systolic blood pressure, heart rate) and Sao2 had no differences before induction, after induction, after intubation and 5 minutes after intubation times (p>0.05). Low dose of cisatracurium comparision with low dose of succinylcholine and placebo created similar laryngeal mask airway ease of insertion condition.
