A European Model for Defense Policy?

Abstract:
Emphasizing the post Cold War era, this paper points out that in the new period, some phenomena have emerged which are changing defense policy of countries in the world. Those phenomena are as follows: diminishing of conventional conflicts, happening of city wars and also asymmetric warfare, and finally growing the number of peace making missions. The author of this paper argues that due to the nature of these developments, a European model has been shaped in the realm of defense policy according to which, defense policy of some European countries, specially, the UK and France is not limited to legitimate defense of their borders and territories anymore, rather it includes cooperation to facilitate the states partnership in military coalitions for the purpose of crisis management out of European territories. Such a situation leads to restructuring and renewal of the armed forces in the European countries.
