Library and Information Science Education in Iran: Barriers and Solutions

Abstract:
The Evaluation of the effectiveness or ineffectiveness of educational programs with its philosophy, needs, social conditions, economic issues, modern technology and job market is a trivial matter in all areas of knowledge. Revision of library and information science curriculum, because of its close relationship with the problems, issues and modern technology, is very important. A review of the literature in Library and information science shows that all scholars and researchers, view all training programs in this field and with respect to the current developments and needs of the community inconsistent. The main goal of this study is to identify barriers and educational problems in librarianship and information science and offer solutions to optimize the current education system is in this area. In this article ten of the most important barriers to library and information science education and also strategies to overcome them are presented and analyzed. The present article is a part of an extensive research project and is an introduction to move in the direction of developing the framework for library and information science education in Iran.
