Role of Police in Reduction of Victimization Traumas

The significance of police role is understood through the first encounter of people with the criminal justice system, and generally people first recognize the system by police. Lawyers have more concentrated on the first step of entering into the criminal justice system since in this step the violation of constitutional human rights is more probableTherefore, today the consideration of scientific statue of police, the enactment of restricting law and regulations against violation of human constitutional rights, and the recourse to preventive and protective methods and measures aimed to reduce crime and its consequences have affected the diverse criminal policy systems. Police, as a governmental organization engaged in damages resulted by victimization, may influence the situation before, after, and at the exact time of committing crime through identification of possible victims or at risk people. Here, police restrict crime opportunities against offenders and by intervention in the critical situation of crime, rescue of people harmed through the committed offense, and reduction of victims’ problems may prove their indispensable role in criminal justice system. Doubtless, to directly and indirectly support victims of crime, simultaneously with the tough and fast behavior against offenders, police ought to relinquish their obsolete methods and utilize current community-based and association-oriented approaches then actualizing their crucial role as administrators of justice for victims.
