Biostratigraphy of the Gachsaran Formation at the Kuh-e Shur, Lar area

In order to introduce faunal assemblages and biozones of the Chehel, Champe and Mol members of the Gachsaran Formation one stratigraphic section at Kuh-e Shur, Lar area, were studied. 17 genera and 23 species of microfossils were identified and the result of this study led to the recognition of two assemblage zones. As a result, the Gachsaran Formation is Chattian-Aquitanian in age. At the study area, the Gachsaran Formation were deposited after Rupelian sea-level fall. Therefore, in interior Fars, the lower parts of the Gachsaran Formation are equivalent to the middle and upper part of the Asmari Formation in Khuzetan area.
