The Impact of Virtual Media on the Wall Street Movement

Abstract:
Occupy Wall Street Movement which was started in recent months in the United States and spilled over to other countries afterwards is of a great importance and has been subject of many researches and analyses. At the beginning days of this movement, the main stream media in the US chose a policy of silent and tried to portray the protestor as anarchists as if it is just a partisan debate. On the other hand, the protestors tried to find and use many alternatives including virtual media in order to deliver their message. This paper is an attempt to explore the role and position of Virtual media in creation and continuation of this movement. The article argues that the Wall Street Movement member managed to reproduce themselves(Friends and families) in forms of virtual communities and also to enhance their social coherence through using virtual media by which they could share their political, social and economic circumstances. In this regard there are a number benefits such as being borderless, being less expensive, being more convenient to use, an being more global, which made virtual media a unique phenomenon and provided the Movement members with a means to access the world public opinion in the maximum level.
