An Analytic Study on Competency Based Selection and Appointment of the Head of Departments in Yazd University

Abstract:
Selection and employing the best people in a job is an important decision. Management in universities is one of the subject in this area and managements of different department because of their effect on college are important.. This paper investigate on quality of competency selection of department management in five dimensions (professional knowledge, mental and behavioral skills, characteristic, attitude and insight and honor) and then analyzes gap between existent and wishing statue of dimension according to Yazd university faculty member´view. We gather data by studying previous studies, interview & questionnaire the validity of questionnaire have approved by some of university´s professors. we have distributed 175 questionnaires among faculty members of yazd university. From those distributed questionnairs, 122 questionnaires are gathered. Coronbach´s alpha showed reliability, 0.97. the results showed, in existence statue, have devoted more concern to characteristic and less concern to professional knowledge. The results of weighted negative gap in any college showed lack of concerning to characteristic that lead to lack of quality of competency selection among department managers. By ranking components of this dimension with topsis technique were determined factors like challenging, age, pressure tolerant, being fresh, humility and being patient can promote existent statue. then universities with a program for promoting quality of mentioned dimensions, can remove or avoide probable problems in the way of desired performance.
