“What was the sign of Jonah?” is a book by Ahmed Deedat who tries to challenge one of claims made in the Jewish and Christ scriptures to prophesy about Jesus Christ, making clear their errors. He noted that Jesus responded to the request of the Jewish scholars to provide proof of the truth of his invitation: “And there shall no sign (no miracle) be given to it, but the sign (miracle) of the prophet Jonas: for as Jonas was three days and three nights in the whale’s belly; so shall the son of man be three days and three nights in the heart of the earth.” (Matthew 12: 39-40). Citing biblical evidences, Deedat proved that this resemblance is by no means true and that the various justifications mentioned over years have serious flaws.

In the process of examining narratives, weakening or strengthening them, some believe that the only way to attain the validity of a narrative is sanad. Some on the other believe that the criterion for accepting a hadith is the assurance of its issuance by the Infallible (pbuh), by means of indications, of which sanad could be seen along with other indications. Sometimes in the history of hadith, we see that sanad has been the main indication of accepting a hadith or rejecting it, that caused to Akhbārīs’ anger. In this article, examining the status of Shiite hadith, it is proven that, unlike Sunni’s, the phenomenon of forgery had the least damage in hadith, and the Infallibles (AS) and their companions attempted to purify such hadiths. Thus, both narrative and rational reasoning imply the validity of the issuance of a hadith, while the mere look at sanad will lead to some damages. It seems therefore that Akhbārī’s concern over this issue has been true, save their distinguished beliefs.

The importance of the Islamic anthropological studies in the current scholarship is a reason for paying attention and scientifically criticizing works in this area. The present paper is to briefly introduce and criticize the book “What is human in Islam?”. Therefore, referring to its thematic points and some printing features, it is critically analyzed. Its most important thematic point is the attention to the basic role of anthropological studies in developing Islamic humanities, as one of its prerequisites, though this issue could be further analyzed there. Despite the positive points in terms of publishing, its considerable contextual critique is the lack of logical order and structural turmoil. In the following, some of its considerable notes are analyzed, including the way of referring, arguments and citations, incorrect research method, generalization and ambiguity, and the quality of its analyses. Finally, the most important principles and the framework of research components of a scientific research in the area of Islamic anthropological studies are studied.

The holy Qur’an and Ahl al-Bayt (AS) have close relationship with each other. After the Prophet (PBUH), his household (AS) are responsible for interpreting and explaining the Qur’an. Imam Sajjad (AS), as one of rāsikhūn (firm) in divine knowledge, also interpreted the verses and used various exegetical methods in order to discover divine purposes. Applying these methods, he made a significant contribution to understanding the Qur’anic teachings. Findings assert that he, as an exegete of the Holy Qur’an, considering the conditions of the day, sometimes with the aid of verses, sometimes with reference to tradition (sunnah), and sometimes using reason and referring to history and determining certain examples for verses, has recovered the facts and interpreted the verses.

The issue of Ḥaqīqat (truth) and Majāz (metaphor), as a rhetorical and an instrument in artistic creation, plays a special role in recognizing meaning. Apart from its effect on rhetorical science, it is important in interpretation of the Qur’an, being concerned by the exegetes. Any interpreter who neglects this aspect will put in mistake, and the least harm is to stay away from excellent concepts that the Qur’an has expressed in this way. In this research, methodologically based on comparative study, two rhetorical concepts of Majāz and ‘Isti’ārah of phrases of the Surat al-Ḥijr in the exegeses of Kashāf and Majma’ al-Bayān are studied. Findings show that both Zamakhsharī and Ṭabrisī to some extent discussed the metaphorical meanings in their books, though sometimes neglected them. ‘Ālūsī, however, followed rhetorical divisions to express metaphors, presenting stronger views.

Criticism of translation is a common activity among scholars, which is regarded as a gift from critics and improves translation, making it more accurate in the future. Criticizing translations of the Qur’an is accepted by Qur’anic experts and most translations have been criticized so far. Sometimes, they are criticized on translations’ matters including literal, structural and syntactic, etc. and sometimes a certain translation is criticized in itself. With regard to the latter, the present paper seeks to criticize the translation by Hossein Ansarian, based on Arabic rules and principles of translation. The research method is library-descriptive-analytical. In brief, some errors of this translation are as follow: mistake in the presentation of vocabulary equivalents, syntactic and structural errors, ignoring the meaning of the emphasizing letters, disregarding homogenization in similar verses, considering some limits for words and carelessness of putting brackets. In addition, his translation neglects some of the Shiite beliefs.
