In this paper, the flutter instability of a morphing wing with change in its length is investigated. Presence of a morphing part in the wing makes a difference in the whole aeroelastic equations. In this regrad, Euler-Bernoulli beam model is considered to simulate the structural behavior of the wing and the well-known Peters unsteady aerodynamic model is utilized to compute the aerodynamic loads. The obtained partial differential aeroelastic equations are translated to the ODE ones using Galerkin’s method. Then, the eigenvalue approach is utilized to study the flutter instability of the aeroelastic system. The novelty of this work is to study the simultaneous effects of some parameters such as engine locations, thrust, sweep angles on the flutter instability of the morphing wing. The obtained results are compared with those available in the literature, and a good agreement is observed. It is found that the presence of engine or a low sweep angle simultaneously with the change of the morphing wing span decrease the flutter speed and a faster morphing process can get better aeroelastic performance.

Equal channel angular pressing (ECAP) is one of the important methods of severe plastic deformation for the fabrication of ultrafine-grained metals and alloys. The aim of this research is to study the improvement and amendment of the microstructure and mechanical properties of aluminum alloy (A356) by ECAP, which is having vast application in air-space industries. A die with channel contiguity angel of 120 and outer arc of curvature of 20 degrees were fabricated. Furthermore, the samples were annealed and the solution treatment was performed before the beginning of the process. Hardness, compression and tensile tests were applied on samples after the process was performed and microstructures of samples were evaluated by means of optical microscopy before and after the process. Mechanical properties of samples were studied and fracture surfaces of samples were characterized using scanning electron microscope (SEM). The results showed that hardness of the annealed sample was increased from 48 to 84.2 Vickers after 2 passes of ECAP and the results of the tensile test showed that the tensile strength was increased from 57 to 177 M.pa after 1 pass of ECAP. Finite element simulation method was applied on the aluminum alloy (A356) to estimate the variation of stress and strain distribution on the samples. The observation indicated that, the highest level of strain occurred on the center portions of samples and 0.25 percent error was detected from the theory state. Comparing the yield stress with simulation method indicated only 3.7 percent error.

In this study, numerical and experimental investigation of two-point incremental forming of free-form workpieces is conducted. According to researches done, only a few number of previous works regarding numerical simulation of incremental forming method are concentrated on two-point type of this technique. However, all of these works have considered simple geometries like: truncated cone, truncated hemisphere and truncated regular pyramid. In contrast, in this paper, the numerical simulation is carried out for free-form parts and the methodology is independent of the geometry of the bottom punch. Thus the methodology can be employed to examine the feasibility of two-point incremental forming for any given geometry. In this paper a numerical simulation for exhaust tube a type of helicopter has been done and the results of simulation are verified with experimental data. Comparing major and minor strain values at the end of simulation with the forming limit diagrams of sheet metals it was possible to examine the likely tearing in the sheet.

Cellular materials are widely used in aerospace industries due to high energy absorption and strength-to-weight ratio. In this paper, the dynamic response of these materials is numerically investigated in order to assess the effects of porosity, strain rate and various pore morphologies on the mechanical response. To do so, two-dimensional finite element models, with different pore morphologies at various porosities and strain rates, are developed utilizing Johnson-Cook strength and failure model through ABAQUS finite element package. The obtained results show that the mechanical responses of these materials strongly depend on the pore morphologies. Among the different morphologies, the highest energy absorption is associated with the vertical ellipse and vertical rectangle morphology. In addition, the energy absorption of each morphology is a function of the porosity value and, depending on the porosity, an appropriate morphology can be selected for the sake of maximum energy absorption. The collapse stress of the material increases by increasing the strain rate until reaching a specific value and then decreases due to the high stress wave.

In this paper, an exact analysis of a axial compressor’s spool of a gas turbine engine has been presented to calculate stresses, strains and displacements. Spool analysis is investigated for both homogeneous and functionally graded material (FGM) states and spool is subjected to centrifugal force and uniform radial loadings at internal and external surfaces. In FGM state, materal properties including Young's modulus and density considered variable along the radius direction. Because the Poisson’s ratio variation ranges are insignificant, it considered constant for all states. Stresses, strains and displacements for both homogeneous and FGM with different non-homogeneous coefficients has been calculated. The results shown that using FGM material with suitable non-Homogeneous coefficient can lead to significant improvement in spool’s safety factor and reduction of displacements, strains and stresses in comparison with homogeneous state. On the other hand, using inappropriate FGM coefficients can lead to safety factor reduction and even structure failure. For particular investigated spool, calculated stresses in FGM with negative coefficients are less than homogeneous state and can cause failure in spool, while improvement in safety factor and displacements reduction observed using FGM with positive coefficients in comparison with homogeneous state.

The purpose of this paper is to investigate mechanical properties of Nanocomposite materials reinforced with carbon nano tubes (CNTs). This study considers the mechanical properties by three point bending test. The technique which is used in this study is one of the methods to calculate fracture toughness value. The specimens with four different mass percentages of carbon nano tubes were made. The mass percentages are 0%,0.01%, 0.05%, 0.1%, 0.2% and 0.3%. An ultrasonic device was used to disperse the CNTs uniformly in the epoxy matrix. So, the agglomeration of the CNT particles decreased in the matrix. In order to investigate the fracture toughness, same size cracks were created in two different directions on the specimens including low CNTs content grade and high CNTs content grade. Three point bending test was repeated at least three times for each of specimens. For each crack, there are different values of the fracture toughness and the fracture forces. Furthermore, the fracture surfaces of samples were investigated using scanning electron microscopy (SEM). The results showed that the direction of the crack, CNTs content and dispersion of the carbon nano tubes are important parameters. Also, flexural elasticity modulus that is different from tensile elasticity modulus was considered in this research.

Unmanned aerial vehicles (UAVs) have recently become very useful in human's life. Unsuccessful landings or the danger of collision in landing is one of the problems of quadrotor UAVs. The goal of this paper is to present a precise and continues pose estimation method using monocular machine vision for a quadrotor to automatically land on a predefined place. For an accurate landing and to reduce the effects of existing delays in the drone's motion we propose an algorithm called "time slicing method", which divides the drone's moves close to the marker into smaller intervals called "movement" and "waiting". The time and the speed of the movements are proportional to the distance of the drone from the marker. The processing is parallel and of a minimum delay. Experimental results verify the success of our method and show that the drone can successfully land on the marker with an error of less than 3cm and in a time less than 15 seconds.

This article provides Multidisciplinary design software for design of a class of General Aviation Aircrafts (GAAs). In the developed software, disciplines such as engine selection, weight and sizing, aerodynamics, performance and stability have been integrated together in Multidisciplinary Design Feasibility (MDF) structure. At the beginning of the design process of this software, preliminary aircraft configuration will determined based on a preset series of requirements and statistical study. Afterwards, the MDF loop by implementing a multidisciplinary analysis assesses the design in the presence of performance and mission constraints. The constraints and algorithms that are considered in the design process are based on the Gudmundsson design approach. Design variables are selected carefully using sensitivity analysis on design objectives (i.e. reducing the gross weight and increasing the range). In order to obtain a feasible design, static stability constraints are considered. Finally, the multi-objective evolutionary optimization algorithm (NSGA-II) is utilized to demonstrate a set of possible answers in the form of Pareto frontier. This software has the ability to add a variety of engines and airfoils, will cover a comprehensive range of optimal designs. A smooth second order sliding mode controller that guarantees a desired impact angle with a proper speed and impact time. This method is capable of intercepting high maneuvering targets. The desired impact angle is defined in terms of a time-varying desired line of sight angle for a maneuvering target. To solve the problem of the unknown target acceleration when intercepting maneuvering targets, an extended state observer (ESO) based guidance law is presented, and the target maneuver is compensated using the smooth sliding mode controller. Numerical simulations demonstrate the effectiveness of the proposed guidance law and show that this method has a better performance against high maneuvering targets in comparison with previous methods.

Presence of threats in the UAV’s operational environment may challenge the mission success by putting in danger the vehicle’s safety. Aimed at developing an efficient online guidance algorithm to avoid netted threats, this research proposes a novel method which incorporates the flying vehicle dynamics directly into the guidance strategy. Unlike almost all existing works, the proposed algorithm does not generate the flight path directly, instead determines appropriate guidance commands (GCs) for control system at every point along the way. The GCs are generated in accordance with the current conditions. A suitable 3DOF point mass UAV dynamic model is developed which takes the lags in the vehicle dynamics into account. The flight path forms gradually as a result of applying the GCs to the vehicle dynamics. The UAV guidance problem is considered within a fuzzy behavior-based framework. Two independent behaviors are introduced, namely, go-to-target and threat avoidance. The issued commands of these behaviors are integrated with adjustable weighting factors. Simulation results demonstrate that proposed approach is efficient and works very well.

Forecasting the forces of the linear actuators with the aim of designating proportionate motors and or structural design of the motion system in flight simulators is of the considerable importance. In this paper, inverse dynamic analysis of the 6 degrees of freedom Stewart – Gough motion system, using Newton - Euler formulation approach consisting linear actuator components and moving platform dynamics with application prospects to flight simulators is illustrated. The developed inverse dynamics simulation software of the motion system is provided by the output results of the general nonlinear inverse kinematical based motion cueing system for computing the static and dynamic actuating forces in typical surge – pitch maneuver. Compared simulation results clearly indicate a significant disproportionate difference between the static and dynamic loads for the prototypical maneuver. Thereupon true attention on predicting the dynamic forces associated with the proposed inverse kinematics in structural design and or designating linear actuator is emphasized.

In this paper, using the concepts related to the information theory, the model of interaction between human and machine in a standard simulator of piloting tasks is created. For this purpose, baud rate generated in all subsystems of the simulator is calculated and by summing them, the total baud rate is obtained. Next, output baud rate produced by human during working with the simulator is computed and subsequently, a unique index facilitating human performance investigation is proposed. Finally, the capability of this index is examined in the simulator of piloting tasks via a practical test performed by some subjects for different levels of workload (low, medium, and high). Results demonstrate that when a substantial growth in the workload level occurs, subjects try to show extra effort through increasing their generated output baud rate. On the other hand, according to the statistics analysis it can be concluded that there is a significant difference between performance of subjects across low, medium, and high levels of workload, i.e. a severe growth in the workload level causes considerable drop in performance index.

In this paper, an LMI based guidance algorithm is mainly addressed to design a model predictive guidance law in presence of the input acceleration constraint. For achieving this purpose, firstly, the model predictive guidance problem is mathematically formulated in a two-dimensional problem. In the proposed algorithm, the future behavior of the guidance problem can be predicted by using a dynamical model. At each certain time, the commanded acclamation would be determined while a typical cost function is minimized. In this study, an acceleration command proportional to the line of sight (LOS) rate is considered as the predictive guidance policy with unknown variable gain. Then the model predictive guidance problem would be translated into another minimization problem subject to some linear matrix inequalities (LMI). Hence such an optimization problem can be numerically solved at each known time in the real-time applications. Then the gain of the proposed guidance algorithm can be automatically updated. The proposed method will be used in a typical two-dimensional guidance problem. The simulation results will show the effectiveness of the suggested method in comparing with the existing guidance algorithms.

In this paper, a new approach is proposed to optimize flight trajectories of aerospace vehicles for terrain following and avoidance. In this approach, the problem of trajectory optimization is defined as a minimum-time optimal control problem and is solved by a combined direct method. The used solution method is a combination of direct collocation method, nonlinear programming, differential flatness and B-spline curves. In this method, by using differential flatness, the governing dynamic equations are expressed by the minimum number of state variables in the minimum dimensional space. Also, state variables are approximated by B-spline curves, and control points of these curves are considered as discrete optimization variables of the nonlinear programming problem. By using the proposed approach, the minimum-time flight trajectories are achieved based on the problem dynamic and physical and operational constraints. Because of high solution speed and accuracy, the approach can be used in model predictive control structures for online generation of optimal trajectories. In this paper, a numerical example is presented and solved to demonstrate specifications and capabilities of the proposed approach.

The use of satellite in the geostationary orbit is one of the most important applications of the space missions. The limitation of earth latitude in the launch sites demands higher cost for inclination correction if geostationary orbit is the target orbit. Various methods such as Hohmann transfer have been developed to meet this requirement. Using the lunar gravity field, as an approach to force the inclination becomes zero, has been investigated in this paper. The required equations for design such mission is derived focusing on the earth-moon system and principle of the gravity assist an efficient algorithm is introduced for orbital maneuver based on two body problem and lunar flyby. In this paper, a numerical study of the overall performance and flow structure in an axial turbine and the effect of a film cooling on it are discussed. For this purpose, two-stage axial turbine is simulated and numerically analyzed using the ANSYS-CFX commercial software. Various analyzes have shown that the rate of blowing ratio (B.R) equaled 0.82 and the velocity ratio (V.R) equal to 0.4 with a 30 degree jet angle is suitable for cooling holes. Of course, because of the high importance of leading edge and coolant inject to the stagnation region, as well as increasing the temperature at the pressure side relative to the suction side, there is a higher flow rate for cooling in these areas. The study of the turbine performance curve shows a slight reduction in the pressure ratio and efficiency due to the application of cooling, which can be compensated by the possibility of increasing the inlet temperature. The streamlines around the blade provide a layer of flow with low temperatures, which is an obstacle between the hot flow and the blade surface. The application of cooling reduces the temperature of the pressure and suction surfaces of the blade at about 300 ° C and the temperature of the front surface of the blade is about 200 °. Investigating the radial and axial variations of the thermodynamic parameters indicates that, by applying the cooling, the mach number and total temperature of the flow at inlet and outlet are reduced and the pressure drop increases.

The electromagnetic launchers are used to accelerate armature to the high velocity. This system applies the electrical energy to induce the magnetic force in the armature. This type of launchers has a higher efficiency than conventional launchers. Therefore, aerospace industries recently widely use from this type of launcher for some of the spatial application, such as the transmittal of light satellites. Since, in addition to the electromagnetic forces, the aerodynamic forces are also effective in the rate of acceleration, so that the transient Navier-Stokes equations on the non-uniform moving mesh should be solved simultaneously with the Maxwell equations. A structured mesh has been used to reduce computational costs. The pathline shows that the flow is formed between the high-pressure area, near the nose of the armature, and the low-pressure region, near the end of the armature. Finally, the speed of the armature was calculated by applying Lorentz and Drag forces. The results show that the speed of the armature can reach about the 100 m/s during the time interval of about 2 ms.

Today, with the advent of gas turbine technology due to pollution, environmental and resource constraints, the industry's urgent need to conduct studies on optimizing their performance and fuel consumption has become more urgent. Identifying combustion system performance on-site and off-site is the first step for optimized future analyzes and designs. This article is the first study on the performance of microturbines that has investigated numerically the T-62T-2A solar microturbine combustion chamber in and out of design. In order to investigate the operating conditions of the engine, the changes of the inlet air flow and inlet temperature to the compressor and the inlet mass flow rate to the chamber have been studied. For this purpose, the numerical method is used to analyze the temperature of the combustion chamber and the current is considered as three-dimensional, stable, incompressible, slimy, turbulent and with radiation. In combustion modeling, a non-pre-combustion combustion model has been modeled for the use of liquid fuel, a fuel spray in the combustion chamber and its evaporation in the Enes Fluent simulator. The results obtained from the numerical solution of the combustion chamber are validated with the results presented by the manufacturer. The results show that, for fuel discharges of less than 0.0125 kg / s, increasing the inlet air temperature leads to increased power, but for higher discharges, it reduces power.

The issue of thermal management in proton exchange membrane fuel cells is a major challenge. On the one hand, a suitable temperature should be provided for electrochemical reactions, and On the other hand, the temperature should not rise to some extent that cause damage to the various parts of the fuel cell. Fuel cell heat management has a significant role in optimizing the performance and life span of PEM fuel cells. In the present research, a cooling system of a 1kW proton exchange membrane fuel cell has been analyzed. Initially, by a mathematical model, the performance of the fuel cell was investigated under different operating conditions, and the amount of air flow required to cool the fuel cell has been calculated. In the following, different geometries are proposed to remove out fans heat from the fuel cell, and the effect of these outlets has been investigated on the heat transfer inside the UAV body. The results show that for all proposed geometries for the outlet, the average external surface temperature of the fuel cell is less than 45 ℃ which satisfies temperature limitation that manufacturer pointed out.
