Nowadays, the microencapsulation of materials is used extensively in differentfields and industries including agriculture, food and pharmaceuticals, coatings, and cosmetics. One of the most important applications of microcapsules is preparationof self-healing polymer composites. Poly(urea-formaldehyde) (PUF) microcapsules havereceived a lot of attention due to their suitable properties in the preparation of thesesystems. However, in some cases, these microcapsules do not have the ability to interactproperly with the polymer matrix. As a result, they reduce the mechanical properties ofthe matrix as well as prevent the proper transfer of applied stress to the microcapsules(and thus reduce self-healing performance). Modification of microcapsules in order toreinforce the interaction of the matrix-microcapsule as well as improving their propertiesis an effective approach to decrease the mechanical properties reduction and improvestress transfer to the microcapsules. According to the literature, the modification methodsof PUF microcapsules can be classified into 4 main groups including; modificationvia silane coupling agents, modification during synthesis, modification by usingnanoparticles, and preparation of multishell microcapsules via layer-by-layer depositionmethod. In this review, microcapsules and factors affecting their effectiveness, methodsof encapsulation, and microcapsule based self-healing systems are explained briefly.PUF microcapsules and their modification methods are also discussed.

The global load of marine floating plastic litter in surface waters is much smaller thanexpected based on the loads of mismanaged plastic entering the marine environment. Therefore, identifying marine sinks that hold plastic litter is essential to assessing the risks, impacts, and plan interventions to manage this new facing problem. Recent research hasshown that mangrove trees occupy the intertidal fringe and develop a partially emerged rootsystem, pneumatophores as a sieve, forming an effective filter that trap different objectsand litters transported by currents, like floating plastic objects. In other words, mangrovesact as sinks for marine plastic litter as well as a barrier for anthropogenic debris (enteringfrom land to the sea) before they are dispersed in the marine environment. Furtheremore, some large plastics after released into the environment, might undergo a variety of bioticand abiotic processes through which they become smaller and smaller plastic particlesinstead of disappearing. These small pieces of plastic particles are called microplastics andare less than 5 mm in size and therefore they are not visible to the naked eye.

Glycidyl azide polymer (GAP) is one of the most active energetic binders used in highenergy composite solid propellants in the future. An energetic insensitive polymericbinder is one of the most important ingredients in energetic composite propellantsformulations. The polymeric binders used in composite solid propellants are usually crosslinked polyurethane elastomers that provide a binding matrix for solids such as oxidizers andmetal fuels with a plasticizer and other additives in small amounts. The energetic propertiesof the binder are due to the azido groups that decompos under combustion conditions andconvert to nitrogen gas. In the present paper, the GAP curing mechanism with isocyanateand isocyanate-free curing agents have been investigated. Studies show that cured samplescuring with isocyanate and isocyanate-free curing agents have good tensile strength andelongation but the curing time varies depending on the type of curing agent used. CuredGAP with isocyanate curing agent during storage shows cracking propagation, while GAPsample cured with isocyanate-free curing agent (BPS) yields better curing without anycavities and bubbles during storage.

Extensive efforts have been made by scientists and researchers in polymer science tounderstand the mechanism underlying the failure of polymer materials. Complexbehavior of polymeric materials compared to other conventional materials (metals andceramics) makes it difficult to study this behavior. The fracture of polymeric materials, which is classified into brittle or ductile, also depends on the mechanism governing theirfracture. From the material science point of view, the fracture mechanics of polymermaterials discusses the relationships and equations that govern fracture. These relationshipslead to a deeper understanding and obtain the values of stress concentration, criteria, andmodes of fracture and express their relationship to the stress intensity index. However, from the point of view of polymer science, not only the mechanics of fracture, but also themechanisms governing fracture are of great importance. The three mechanisms of cracking, shear yielding and cavitation are described as the mechanisms governing the fracture ofpolymeric materials. Understanding which mechanism governs a polymer piece requires athorough understanding of that piece as well as the operating conditions. In this paper, themechanics of fracture and the mechanisms that govern it are discussed, as well as how totransfer the mechanism to another one.

Self-healing polymers can spontaneously repair cracks or fractures themselves thatthis property increases their service life. Propagation of the microcracks in polymerstructures may leads to material failure, so the research on self-healing polymeric materialshave attracted significant attention. The fundamental mechanism for self-healing polymericmaterials involves reversible damage-restoring bonds. Usually external stimuli is requiredto repair the damaged bonds and self-healing process. There is a number of influentialparameters on self-healing behaviors, including healing efficiency (a ratio of mechanicalproperty measured after and before healing), healing rate, healing times at the same fracturepoint, and storage time (after which the broken parts still show the healing property). Hostguestinteractions occur when two or more chemical species interact with each other vianon-covalent bonds. In supramolecular host-guest interactions, one moiety (the guest)is physically inserted to another moiety (the host) and is held together by non-covalentinteractions. Since the interactions are reversible, polymer networks constructed by suchinteractions can exhibit self-healing properties. Cyclodextrins are suitable resources forpreparation of the host-guest interactions because of their biocompatibility, good solubilityand the ability for chemical surface modification. The purpose of this paper is to investigatethe characteristics, mechanisms and different methods for synthesis of self-healing polymerhydrogels.

Computational chemistry is a branch of chemistry which uses computer simulationto assist in solving chemical problems. In this technique, the methods of theoreticalchemistry, incorporated into efficient computer programs, are used in order to calculatethe structures and properties of molecules. Examples of such properties are structuralparameters, (interaction) energies, electronic charge distributions, dipoles and highermultiple moments and vibrational frequencies. Computational chemistry methods rangefrom highly accurate to very approximate methods which mainly include Ab initio andsemi-empirical methods. Ab initio methods are based entirely on quantum mechanics andbasic physical constants. Other methods are called empirical or semi-empirical, becausethey employ additional empirical parameters. While computational results normallycomplement the information obtained by chemical experiments, it can in some casespredict infeasible and undone chemical reactions. Due to the importance of computationalchemistry in solving and predicting chemical reactions, especially catalytic reactions, thisarticle is dedicated to this issue. First, the computational chemistry software and methodswill be described in brief. Then, the application of computational chemistry in polymersis reviewed with special focus on Ziegler-Natta catalytic olefin polymerization reactions.
