The flow pattern in the estuary is one of the most important coastal processes affecting the coastline morphology. The factors affecting the flow in an estuary or gulf are influenced by estuarine topography, tidal type, and environmental factors (wind and river flux). Arvandroud River is a border line between Iran and Iraq, which is one of the most important maritime regions of Iran and Iraq, both economically, strategically, environmentally and military. T In this paper, Mike's hydrodynamic model is used. This hydrodynamic model is based on the solution of shallow water equations, and the effects of land rotation, topographic changes, and friction effects are also involved. Hydrodynamic equations consist of continuity and averaged depth measurements. In the present study, field studies were first performed . Numerical modeling was then performed using Mike 21's hydrodynamic and two-dimensional model. Using field data and Admiral tidal components, the model was calibrated and verified for the northern Persian Gulf from the outer Arvand to the depth of 84 meters. The results indicate that the maximum mean change for component p is 0.5 / m3 / m / s and the minimum is m3 / m / s 1 / 0-. And for component Q, the minimum mean change of 0.45 m3 / m / s - and the maximum is approximately 0.01 m3 / m / s. The results also show that the higher the depth of water, the greater the component (p), and in component analysis (Q), the flux is quite the opposite.

Rip currents are strong, mushroom-shaped currents that are the main cause of swimmers’ drowning in the surf zones. In this study, a model is presented to estimate the rip current density on the intermediate-state beach using artificial neural network considering the variable behavior of these currents and the many limitations in field observations. For this purpose, the data related to the rip current system were first extracted as non-dimensional parameters including the Froude number, wave height, width of the surf zone, and width of the rip channel using the Mike21/3 numerical model. In the next step, the effect of each of the parameters was investigated on the rip density for different neural network functions and neurons. The results of the model were then compared with field observations of other researchers in different wave heights and very good agreement was observed between them. The results of this study show that with the increase in wave height, the current velocity and spacing of rip channels will increase and the rip density will gradually decrease. Other results of this study indicate that as the lower waves approach the beach, Gradient descent with adaptive learning rate (gda) function with the lowest error (RMSE equals 0.013) and as the higher waves approach the beach, Quasi-Newton (bfg) function each with 14 neurons give the most accurate estimate of the rip density on the intermediate-state beach.

The movement of subsurface objects in the stratified fluid causes the formation of internal waves. In this paper Internal gravity waves spectrum generated by a hydrofoil body moving in a stratified fluid is investigated. In a glass tank with dimensions 3×1×0.5 (m), a linear stratification with buoyancy frequency (N) equal to 0.44 per second, was set up. Then a hydrofoil body with 6 cm in diameter, 20 cm at length and 12 cm wide was towed in the fluid. While changing the Froude (from 0.19 to 1.7) and Reynolds numbers of the flow, the effects of these changes were examined on the formation of the internal waves and wake of the hydrofoil. By using shadowgraph technique and signal fluctuations record, the internal waves with a length of about half a meter were identified. In this study, the signals are recorded in domain of frequency at a certain distance from the model. Using an ultra-fast salinity meter (densitometer) for recording signal frequencies it was found that increasing Froude number results in more combination of frequencies occurred in the environment. The energy of wave spectrum increased up to a critical Froude number, and then decreased due to turbulence.

Target Strength is one of the main parameters in the sonar equation that is calculated for active sonar. In this paper, the Target Strength of the Russian 941 Akula Class submarine as one of the largest submarines in the world is estimated. We first subdivide the submarine into three cylindrical, rectangular, and hemispherical geometric shapes, and compute the target strength each at different angles and constant frequency, then aggregate all three geometric shapes and calculate the total target strength of the submarine. Finally, modeling and simulation for this submarine is presented. Results show the maximum target strength of this submarine at the normal angle is 109.26 dB and the average target strength of the cylindrical and rectangular section and the nose at different angles is 15.193 dB

In this paper a new hydrophone sensor in low frequency has been designed and simulated. Transducer mechanism is based on variation of gate source capacitor in MOSFET transistor. Gate of transistor is suspended using two beams. In response to incoming acoustic wave, gate will go under deformation and cause variation of gate-source capacitor. As a result, acoustic wave will alter drain source current of MOSFET transistor. In contrast to privies studies, instead of using uniform rectangular gate, comb-drive gate is proposed so as to increase the gate-source capacitor. At beginning, structure and parameters such as pressure, stress and thickness of gate carried out. Finally, for different material the sensitivity is calculated and compared with previous studies. By employing finite-element-method simulation software sensitivity and bandwidth has been calculated. Simulation results indicate high sensitivity around -165dB (ref: 1V/1µPa) in low frequencies. Proposed hydrophone shows flat frequency response in rang of 10-11400 Hz.

Ocean environmental noises are a significant and specific acoustic feature that influence sonar performance. These noises are affected by surface state (like wavy state of the sea, wind speed, etc.), above space of surface, aquatic animals and specially shipping noises. To improve the performance of sonars (acoustic targets detection), use of beam-forming for noise cancelling is not suitable. Because the system can only cover a specific range of environment while all acoustical waves are essential for targets detection. The proposed solution of this paper is utilizing adaptive filter for cancelling acoustical noise from sonar targets echoes. Since environmental noise is very effective on sonar systems, using the proposed method is very essential to improve the performance of the system. Simulation results show that the proposed sonar system can completely discriminate received acoustical waves and environmental noise and increase probability of detection.

The energy production system is the heart in underwater and is one of its main systems and assurance in accuracy of its performance in specific situations is really important. First of all, the primary reliability of the system is estimated by modeling reliability using diagram block method, and then the system reliability is optimized by using two approaches; reliability improvement and “redundancy” technique. After that the torque is detected as the basic part responsible for decreasing reliability, the reliability was increased by replacing the torque with a new one with a lower failure rate. Due to improvement of system reliability, the optimized structure of the energy production system was defined with optimizing reliability approach by using instruments of states and effects analysis, in addition to detecting reasons of failure and estimation of risk priority numbers based on related results, using system “redundancy”, modeling optimization functions and solving models equations, by GAMS software. Therefore the proposed “redundancy” with reliability optimization approach with simple parallel structure is able to have three diodes in every leg parallel. Over all “redundancy” with reliability optimization approach with the proposed simple parallel structure, can have two parallel systems.

In this paper, the flow around an AUV is simulated by using CFD method and control volume approach. The first, simulation is performed for straight – line towing test to compare the results with experimental data and apply a suitable grid and turbulence model. With this steady method only static coefficients achieved. To simulate pure heave motion, flow domain is divided into two zones that AUV adjacent zone with body oscillate with udf program. By using moving mesh method, outside domain cells change. Thus, pure heave motion simulated unsteady. In this paper, the effects of changes in the amplitude and frequency oscillation model on pure heave motion have been investigated. Output graphs of fluent converted to hydrodynamics coefficient by developing a Matlab program. The results show that some of the coefficients are independent of the amplitude and oscillation frequency of the model.

Owing to its high operational power, the submarine has always a serious threat to surface vessels. For this reason, surface vessels are continuously searching where a submarine might be present. The submarines threat assessment is therefore essential for making appropriate decisions and weapons allocations. The threat assessment can be explored from two perspectives: operational and kinematics. In the operational approach, the surface vessel behavior is analyzed in terms of its interaction with operational experiences. Whereas, in the kinematics approach, the threat assessment is carried out based on the position and movement of the submarine itself and the surface vessel. In the kinematics approach, important motion parameters are identified, and for each parameter, according to its variation range, appropriate fuzzy sets are formed. Human knowledge is also modeled in the form of fuzzy if-then rules. After combining the received data from sensors, the proposed system determines the threat level for any target. The efficiency of the advanced system has been investigated through performing simulations in different scenarios. Considering the scarcity of publications on the submarine threat assessment, the present paper can be considered as a pioneer work in this field.

Researchers have recently paid a lot of attention to drag force estimation over different bodies. This force is usually calculated using surface integral over the body and momentum defect method in the wake region. In this research, the steady-state, incompressible drag force calculation around a submarine model is numerically investigated using the latter technique (momentum defect method). Simulations were carried out at different aspect ratios at zero angle of attack and the capabilities of this method at inclined flows were also investigated. The most important parameters which affect the results are the vertex space, the distance of data collection section, and the data collection section size. In this article, practical suggestions are made for each parameter. The contribution of the pressure, momentum, and turbulence term were also evaluated at different cross sections. These findings can be implemented in wind tunnels with small test section length. They can also be used to compare the results with the common CFD surface integral method. By using the results of this research, the maximum error implementing this technique at zero and non-zero angle of attack will be about 4% and 16% respectively.

In this paper, a new method is used to depth control of an autonomous underwater vehicle (AUV). It is assumed that the desired trajectory, which should be tracked by the AUV, is defined by a user outside the vehicle and therefore, the communication between the controller and the AUV is done by a wireless network. To tackle the limitations and challenges in the wireless communication, a novel method is used to decrease the rate of sending messages from the controller to the actuator, while the closed-loop performance is maintained. To this end, using the nonlinear state-dependent Riccati equation (SDRE), a tracking controller is designed for the depth control of the AUV. Then, using the event-triggered methodology, the communication rate between the controller and the AUV is minimized. According to the mean square tracking error of applying both SDRE and event-triggered controllers, to track a damped sinusoidal trajectory ( and , respectively) and also according to 68 percent reduction of data transmission in event-triggered method, it can be concluded that the designed event-triggered control decreases the utilizing of the communication network with maintaining the system performance. Therefore, this method can tackle most of constraints and challenges of using a wireless network.

In this paper, using Fracture Mechanic Approach, the remaining life of a submarine is estimated, and in periodic tests, defects in the structure of its hull pressure were observed. A real submarine is subject of the study, and analyses and simulations are performed to determine the hull pressure of this submarine. For th subject submarine, after modeling and determining some critical areas, a set of assumed defects (cracks with a certain depth) are assumed in the critical area. Then, by defining 15 possible depth scenarios in submarine exploitation, the growth trend of the cracks under the mentioned working conditions is examined and according to the Paris law, the life of the submarine in the presence of these cracks is estimated. Finally, it was concluded that the residual stress intensity factor due to welding processes has a greater share in the overall stress intensity factor entering the structure and will greatly reduce the life of the submarine. It is worth mentioning that Abaqus v 6.14 software was used in performing finite element analyses.
