One of the important verses of the Quran that deals with the interaction of Muslims with this holy book and in which the Prophet (p.b.u.h.) complains about the mahjuriyat of the Quran without specifying its time is verse 30 of Surah al-Furqan. In dealing with this word, the interpreters and translators of the Quran have generally spoken of ‘ignoring the Quran’, ‘abandoning it’, and ‘disobeying its commands’, and sometimes they have taken it to refer to the obscene and unfair remarks attributed to the Quran. Considering the words collocated with it such as “zalikah”, “qawm”, and “ittkhadhah”, the present study seeks to state that the purpose of the verse is not basically the abandonment of the Quran; it is rather embracement of the Quran, but in a distanced form. In verse 30 of Surah al-Furqan, is not stated what “mahjura” refers to, but according to the context of the verse and the example of “oppressor”, and according to the hadiths related to the companionship of the Quran and its explicators, as well as Hadith al-Thaqalayn, it is understood that the Quran has been dissociated from its explicators and companions, i.e. from the Prophet (p.b.u.h.) himself and the Ahl al-Bayt (a.s.). Also, the time of the verse is not the Day of the Resurrection, and “qawm” in this verse does not refer to all Muslims until the Day of Judgment; it rather refers to the people of the Messenger of God, who considered the Quran sufficient and self-sufficient.

The level of adherence of a prominent interpreter such as Fakhr Razi to a specific reading (of the Quran) and interpretation of the Quran on the basis of it is one of the points that widens the audience's horizon in using his interpretation. Using the descriptive-analytical method, this study explores Fakhr Razi's approach in Tafsir al-Mafatih al-Ghayb to the differences in readings of the Quran. In dealing with this issue, he is sometimes silent, and at times he only suffices to mention the differences in readings, and in the interpretation of some verses, he analyzes them and chooses one particular reading by mentioning the relevant reasons. Fakhr Razi has made use of the knowledge of readings (of the Quran) in interpretation to expand the meanings of verses, as well as to reinforce meanings and remove ambiguity from challenging verses.

In interpreting the phrase “ثم قضی‏ اجلا و اجل مسمی عنده” (al-An'am, 2), different views have been expressed by interpreters. In interpretations, the word “ajal” has been taken to refer to the period from birth to death, the inevitable end, the end related to the Hereafter, sleep, the end that can be preceded and delayed, the end of the world, the end related to the Resurrection and the end that has been recorded in obliteration and registration tablet. Also, a lot of differences are seen among the opinions of interpreters in the interpretation of “ajal mosamma”.  They believe it refer to: the time interval between death and the Resurrection (the period of barzakh), the end that can be preceded and delayed, the end of the world, the end related to Resurrection, the end related to death, the fixed and inevitable end, the time interval between creation and death, and so on. Irrespective of the interpreters who have given no reason for their opinions, the other ones are divided into four main groups: the first group consider ajal as the period of life and ajal mosamma’ as the period after death, the second group believe ajal and ajal mosamma’ refer to sleep and death, the third group hold that ajal is avoidable and ajal mosamma’ is unavoidable, and the fourth group believe that ajal can be preceded and delayed and ajal mosamma’ is inevitable and fixed. Inspecting the reasons of the interpreters in presenting these opinions, relying on the relationship between the verses and considering the order and relationship between the words in this verse, this study reveals how examining the context and the relationship between words in the comparative interpretation of this verse helps the interpreter. The study further reveals that ajal can be preceded and delayed considering the consequences of human actions, ajal mosamma’ is what God knows about, and the time of the occurrence of these two coincides at the end of each person's life.

One of the key topics in political philosophy is the discussion of the duties and authorities of the state and society. Depending on their theology, ontology and anthropology, different schools of thought and theorists have different understandings of the duties and powers of these two towards each other. Using the comparative method, the present article attempts to compare the political thought based on Nahj al-Balaghah and the political thought ruling al-Ahkam al-Sultaniyah regarding the issue in question. The findings of this study indicate that one of the similarities between these two works is that they both admit that the state and the people in the Islamic society have certain duties and authorities, and neither book considers the duties of the people to the state to be absolute. Both works acknowledge that, like the state’s being bound to follow the path of the Shari'ah, they are conditional. The most important difference between the two books in this regard is that the rulings of al-Sultaniyah recognize wider authorities for the state in the public and private spheres of the society. The results of this study show that, despite the similarities observed in these two books about the issue in question, they basically offer two different governance policies. Also, the difference of view on the root cause of the state (the rational necessity of the state in Nahj al-Balaghah and its legal necessity in the rulings of al-Sultaniyah) is one of the fundamental differences between these two perspectives on the duties and authorities of the state and society.

The word rububiyat comes from the root “rabb” meaning to train, and of course its Quranic examples, which are semantically aligned with this word, are considered to come from the root “rabbu” in the inflectional structure. However, from the perspective of the Quran, rububiyat can be divided into two types: takwini and tashri’i. The takwini type is a kind of indirect and intangible guidance that is not specific to human beings, but the tashri’i type is specific to human beings, which is particularly characterized by sending prophets and divine books for guidance purposes. Of course, considering the same concept of rububiyat, it can be divided into general and specific types. The general type covers nurturing all creatures in the system of existence, as well as nurturing all human beings to the same degree, and the specific type can be considered a special kind of divine nurturing that covers the training of special people like the prophets. This study is an attempt to, first, categorize and then explicate the examples of the lordship of the “Lord of the Worlds”, all of which are directly or indirectly related to human beings. For this purpose, the semantic layers of each of them have been explained in the field of divine Lordship and according to the context of the verses. One of the results of this study is to prove that man is of special standing for God, Who has bestowed special divine lordship on him and trains the prophets in their best form, so that the legislative guidance of other human beings, which is one of the examples of lordship, can be fulfilled by them.

Terms such as religious government and religious community are inferred from the Quranic verses and hadiths. Some Islamic scholars believe that religious government takes precedence over religious community. The main reason for this claim is that the establishment of a religious government can facilitate the religious education of the people and as a result provide security, growth, development and the expansion of the Islamic education system. The scholars having this belief give some reasons from the Quranic verses and narrations. In contrast, there is a group of scholars who consider the establishment of a religious government as the result of the formation and complete identity of a religious community. These scholars, too, argue for the precedence of religious community over religious government relying on another category of verses and narrations. The present study examines these two perspectives, and the results reveal that the precedence of religious government over religious community or vice versa is a matter of dispute and controversy between the two parties, and neither has absolute priority over the other, but rather each of them is relatively defensible compared to the other one according to Quranic and narrative reasons.

The present study aims at the semantic analysis of the words “amani” and “omniyyah” in the linguistic context and situational context of the verses of the holy Quran. In this analysis, in addition to the context, analogous verses, the cause of revelation, the anthropology of the audience and the referential style of the holy Quran, as Wansbrough claims, are also considered. Based on the semantic analysis of the words “amani” and ‘omniyyah” in the contexts of the verses of the holy Qur'an, it can be generally concluded that these words are closely related to the concept of “wa’dah” in all their Quranic uses, and they refer to the blissful promises that one makes to himself or his followers. Some examples of “amani” are the false promises made by Satan's deception such as the promise of entering the Heaven and quick deliverance from the fire of the Hell, which the sinful Jews rejoiced in and they speculated about without any evidence from the revelation or the Torah. But sometimes the example of these promises is truthful as, in verse 52 of Surah al-Hajj, the example of the word “omniyyah” is “the promise of faraj” which the prophets and messengers of God received from the revelation and with which they assured themselves and their followers: this verse has been mentioned in reference to “the promise of faraj” which is in the Zabur of Prophet David (p.b.u.h.), and  the phrase “Satan’s inculcation” in this verse has been mentioned in reference to the symbolic response to the Satan in the Rami al-Jamrat ceremony. This ceremony is held in the land of “Mena”, which has the same root as that of the word “omniyyah”.

Mentioning 1122 narrations, Muhaddith Nouri, in the book Fasl al-Khitab fi Tahrif al-Kitab Rabb al-Arbab, has dealt with tahrif bi-naqisah and its proof in the Quran as this book and its narrations have been cited in all the works of those who believe in distortion. In 12 chapters of his book, he has presented 12 reasons to prove distortion by reduction. Using rational and narrative arguments, the present article explicates their shortcomings and weaknesses. From among the narrations of Fasl al-Khitab, some of them, in particular, and some others, in general, have been considered as the proof of distortion by reduction. Most of these narrations have been taken from unknown or fake sources, and some of them are related to differences in readings (of the Quran), which are either related to the way some Quranic words are recited or the special interpretations offered on some verses. However, these narrations have got nothing to do with distortion by reduction. A few narrations have been narrated from reliable sources, which have been mistakenly taken to be the basis for distortion. These narrations do not include interpretive additions, jara wa tatbiq and other similar explanations which require revelatory additions to the holy Quran, which have been omitted in later periods.

The identification of the Quranic narrations with the inconsistent procedures of descriptive and recommended propositions from the previous texts was expressed by the ill-wishers for and disbelievers in the holy Quran throughout the history of Islam. This postulation was processed in various ways to demonstrate the teachings and propositions of the holy Quran are devoid of identity while the disbelievers were short of ideological models. The nature of the response of the believers in the Quran during the history was ideological, and in regard to method, it was aligned with their methodological claim. The rise of empirical knowledge, the emergence of new empirical theories and its projection into philosophical and religious views placed the claim of taking the text of religion from the previous texts in the idea of intertextuality. The new approach considered all the teachings of the holy Quran, especially the story of the Great Flood, in a structural and cognitive range taken from the previous texts. Using the hermeneutic method, this study examined and criticized the Quranic narration of Noah's Flood at the text level, with the author-based hermeneutic elements and in relation to the mythological texts of Mesopotamia and the old Testament and the New Testament, and processed the idea of its independence using textual discourse elements.

The Holy Quran is the supreme book of guidance and the most important revelatory source unanimously acknowledged by all Muslims. The necessity of recognizing the Imam and the successor of the great Prophet of Islam (p.b.u.h.) and the indication of some narrations as to the existence of the name of Imam Ali and the Imams of the Ahl al-Bayt (a.s.) in the holy Quran is one of the challenges that made Muhaddith Nouri, in responding to the opponents of Imam Ali's (a.s.) immediate caliphate, be inclined towards the distorted idea that the Quran is imperfect, relying on some narrations. Hence, the present study aims to examine the aforementioned narrations and analytically criticize the arguments of those opponents and Muhaddith Nouri’s idea. In doing so, using the descriptive-analytical method, first several answers are given to reject the claim in question; then the style of the holy Quran in expressing its content and the method of making inferences from it are explained, and Abu Basir’s sound hadith from Imam Sadeq (a.s.), according to which the reason for not mentioning the name of Imam Ali (a.s.) in the Quran is the style of the Quran in stating divine knowledge, is explicated. The findings of this study indicate three characteristics, i.e. the general statement, the internal expansion and external expansion of the holy Quran, which elucidate why the names of Imam Ali and other Imams (a.s.) have not been mentioned in the holy Quran. Moreover, ignoring the documentary inspection of the narrations, it has been illuminated that mentioning the name of Imam Ali (a.s.) in the interpretive additions of some of the companions’ copies of the Quran or in sound narrations is indicative of “explanatory interpretation” or the expression of purpose, the occasion of revelation and examples of the Quranic  verses,  not the existence of his name in the text of the Quran.

Following the frequent emphases of Quranic and hadith teachings on practicing taqwa, Muslim mystics have paid considerable attention to this issue according to Islamic Shari’ah. Using the analytical-library method, the present study examines the definition and levels of taqwa from the perspective of Islamic Shari’ah and mysticism. The main, lexical meaning of taqwa is “self-preservation against the damage of evils”, but mystics define it as “following religious teachings”. In religious teachings, such matters as “avoiding polytheism”, “avoiding sin”, ‌ “avoiding doubts”, “avoiding lawful stuff beyond necessity” and “avoiding non-truth” can be considered as different levels of taqwa. Following religious teachings, men of mystic knowledge have provided the best analysis of the above-mentioned levels in their writings in explaining the levels of taqwa. Therefore, the perspective of Islamic mystics on this issue is congruent with the standards of the Shari’ah and Quranic and hadith teachings, and their works can be used in the interpretation and analysis of the Quran and hadith.

Ithna 'Ashariyah is considered one of the largest sects of non-Sunni Muslims and have been known as Shiites since the time of the Prophet (p.b.u.h.). The importance of this sect has attracted the attention of Ethan Kohlberg, the orientalist studying Shi'a, and he has focused his studies on this sect. In his first article entitled “The Uses of the Term Ithna 'Ashariyah”, Kohlberg equates the Ithna 'Ashariyah sect with the Harbiyah sect, citing Abu Tamam’s Kitab al-Shajarah. Harbiyah were the followers of Abdullah ibn Harb Kandy, who considered Abdullah as the Imam after Abu Hashim, the son of Muhammad Hanafiyah. After a while, his followers realized that his claim to Imamate was false and turned away from him. In the present article, first, Ithna 'Ashariyah sect is introduced, using both Shiite and Sunni sources; then the falsehood of Ethan Kohlberg’s claim in identifying Ithna 'Ashariyah sect with Harbiyah sect is clarified by providing a report on these two sects from the books of nations and the works that had been written before Abu Tamam’s Kitab al-Shajarah.
