Griffin solves the problem of evil by revising the concept of omnipotent God. He claims that one should determine one's perception of God's power to be able to explain and justify the existence of evil in the world. Griffin believes that the universe was created from chaos and row material that has inherent power. Since God cannot control the creatures endowed with special power, He only persuades and excites them. This inherent power of theirs is associated with its value and (anti- value). That is any creature that has a lot of power, talent, and the ability to enjoy and suffer a lot and vice versa. Griffin's process God uses His creative power, which His benevolence to motivate the world to experience superior and innovative values. But because these beings also have creative powers, they may oppose God's goal that this lead to evil in the world. His argument can be criticized and evaluated. In this way, Griffin's persuasive God not only did not try to eliminate the evil one but by exercising his creative power, he led to the emergence of many evil in the world.

Moral dilemmas have been philosophically interesting subjects for scrutiny. While some philosophers have claimed that genuine moral dilemmas are possible, others have argued to the opposite. McConnell takes the latter path and argues that in the presence of two following principles moral dilemmas would lead to contradiction: “Ought implies can” principle and the so-called agglomeration principle. McConnell claims, and Paske rejects, that (a) genuine moral dilemmas are impossible and (b) that moral dilemmas lead to logical incoherence. Paske argues that moral dilemmas are originated in conflict of incommensurable moral values. Paske believes that in this circumstance the “Ought implies can” principle does not hold. To block Paske’s objection, McConnell has proposed a disjunctive approach to moral dilemmas. In this paper, first I explain McConnell’s argument that moral dilemmas lead to contradiction. Then I explore Paske’s objection and McConnell’s reply. Finally, I raise a series of objections against McConnell’s counter-attack to Paske’s incommensurability argument.

This article draws on Hegel's description of the tragedy of "Oedipus at Colonus" based on the text of "Phenomenology of spirit". Because Hegel considers art to be the product of the spirit of the times and believes it emerges from the culture and ethics of societies, he reflects on the spirit of Greek society through reading Greek tragedy. The most prominent feature of ancient Greek society has been the "unity of life" among most philosophers. But Hegel believes that because this unity was unconsidered and immediate, the Greek ethical life (Sittlichkeit) collapses. Although Hegel in the phenomenology of spirit makes no direct reference to the play of Oedip's at Clonus, this article compares the text of phenomenology with the text of the tragedy of Oedipus at Colonus and reveals that Hegel's understanding of ancient Greek society is completely intertwined with the aforementioned tragedy.Hegel’s reading of this tragedy focuses on the confrontation between the roles of woman/man and family/state in ancient Greek society. These confrontations appear in the characters of Antigone and Ismene (daughters of Oedipus) against Eteocles and Polynices (sons of Oedipus). While describing the war between two brothers, Hegel goes on to describe the "war" phenomenon in the context of the establishment of unity in the society, which is part of Hegel's political philosophy.

As a philosopher of religion who believes in anti-realism, Phillips denies the reality of religious matters such as "God", "soul", "resurrection" and so on. But as a religious Christian, He tries to reduce the meaning of immortality of the soul into having a moral life. Accordingly, he defines the immortality of the soul as equivalent to ignoring desires and achieving a moral life. Its immortality means man's participation in living with God. So he takes a pragmatic approach in explaining the grammar of immortality. This article has shown that in his view, semantically, there is no clear boundary between atheism and faith. On the other hand, the basis of his pragmatic approach is that ethics is based solely on religion, while most current theories in the field of meta-ethics reject this view of the relationship between religion and ethics. It also turns out that his view about immortality conflicts with the religious life of Christians.

Causation can be regarded as one of the most important and fundamental notions in the history of philosophy. It is arguable if we consider causation is bounded with Hume. His Empiricism led him to be skeptical about modal notions. Hence, he sought to eliminate them from his ontology. His efforts paid back. By his challenge on the classical view on causation, the image of the causal relation as necessary relation was pushed aside. At present, the majority of analytic philosophers have accepted this Humean understanding of the world known as the Humean mosaic. Despite these facts, there is a minority who still defend the classical or, more accurately, the Aristotelian account of causation. In this essay, first, I try to introduce the basics of the Humean view based on Heil and Martin’s view. Then, I am going to explain the Aristotelian view with a focus on Charles Martin and John Heil’s view. Besides introducing Heil and Martin’s views on causation, this article attempts to demonstrate an Aristotelian view of the world is preferable to the Humean one, this would be possible by appealing to evaluate the distinction between categorical properties and dispositional properties. In the end, I investigate that if we find the Aristotelian view more plausible, and if we want to pick up Interactionist Substance Dualism in the philosophy of mind, the best option for us is Lowe’s Non-Cartesian Substance Dualism.

One of the conditions which gave rise to the emergence of modern aesthetics was the claim that beauty could and must be studied independently of goodness and truth. However, in pre-modern philosophy, namely that of ancient Greece and the middle ages, the beautiful was not understood and explained independently of the good and the true. Before Christanity and in the middle ages, the relation of beauty with goodness and truth was elaborated by Dionysius. In his On the Divine Names, by a combination of theological perspective with the late neo-platonic framework, Dionysius explains the relation of beauty with goodness and truth as three fundamental Divine Names. This paper tries, through the analysis of Dionysius' treatise, to study and explain the nature of these three Names and their relationships. This paper shows that Dionysius while declaring the essential unity of beauty, goodness, and truth, affirms the theophanic aspect of beauty and its function to motivate the soul powers of knowledge and love towards its ultimate goal, theosis. As such, Dionysius can be regarded as the founder of a kind of theological-mystical aesthetics.

Ernst Cassirer, a Neo-Kantian philosopher, believes that myth is one of the primary and most important cognitive forms. To get a grasp on being, humans have not begun from a conceptual knowledge overnight, rather they have long spent their lives on acquiring basic knowledge. This basic human knowledge is known as mythical knowledge. In this type of knowledge, perceptions and formed-world have certain characteristics that cannot easily be perceived and affirmed by today's theoretical knowledge. Therefore, such characteristics should be studied within a mythical cognitive framework. In mythical knowledge, such components as space, time, and numbers are known as perceptual mediators. This research investigated the nature and principles that form the mythical space and its objective embodiment compared with sensory perception and geometric spaces. In so doing, Ernst Cassirer's works were studied thoroughly and objective instances of mythical space were reviewed in ancient civilizations. Moreover, the place, rules, and patterns governing the formation of mythical knowledge and its spatial embodiment were studied and such space's characteristics were compared with sensory perceptions and abstract geometrical spaces.

According to architects such as Christopher Alexander and Nikos A. Salingaros, in architecture, there is no need to be so scrupulous in designing. Just based on mathematics, one can present a design or even build a city. Although Immanuel Kant wrote nothing but a few short lines about architecture, in his The Critique of the Power of Judgment, where he analyzes the power of aesthetics, points out that we need the genius to create an aesthetic object. That is to say, we need someone who creates the object based on novel ideas, not just pre-existing principles like mathematical ones. Those who build a new structure based on mathematics and imitate the scales hidden in nature are not geniuses. Nor is the structure of a work of art or an aesthetic object. If we enjoy confronting such structures, we cannot consider our judgment so general that includes others, that is, we cannot expect others to get that pleasure. What we claim here is "I get pleasure from looking at this structure". However, if we were confronted with the Beautiful we would claim "it is beautiful", while we were expecting everyone to realize it. Therefore, those mathematics-based structures must be considered as pleasant things, not beautiful things. We are not to evaluate different architectural styles; instead, we are just to offer a Kantian interpretation of the architectural viewpoints of Salingaros and the like.

In the second preface to the critique of pure reason, Kant states that one of his purposes in writing this book is to make a room for faith. In paragraph A822 / B850, Kant deals with the threefold plan of knowledge, faith, and opinion; knowledge is something both subjectively and objectively sufficient. Faith is something that is sufficiently subjective and objectively insufficient, and opinion is something that is subjectively and objectively insufficient. In the meantime, the paradoxical state of faith has attracted the attention of some Kant scholars. In this article I will explain that: First, what is faith in Kant’s thought and how is it justiied. Second, what is the relationship between faith and knowledge in Kant's thought? And finally we explain that, Kant's understanding of faith, which he refers to as pure rational faith, although it has much in common with the definition of faith in Christianity, has a very different foundation. To be more precise, Kant offers a human and secular meaning of faith and religion, which is in complete contradiction with the main themes of faith in the Abrahamic religions, such as belief in the unseen. This is an important point that some contemporary Kant scholars have overlooked.

Solipsists maintain that their inner self is based on their experience and cognition and only this cognition is reliable and authentic. The reduction of the universe into human subjectivity is the beginning of solipsist-based theories.  Therefore, most philosophers often seek its roots in idealistic ideas. Husserl and Wittgenstein, two influential contemporary philosophers have always faced the challenge of Solipsism because of the idealistic aspects of their thinking. Since these two have gone through different periods in their intellectual life, their approaches to this challenge have some differences and similarities. In this study, by examining and analyzing the intellectual foundations of each, we have deeply explored and applied their approaches to the concept of Solipsism.

Emphasizing the subject of imitation as an instinctive and natural factor in human learning, Aristotle in his Poetics considers mimesis as the origin of artistic indulgence, however his commitment to the theory of imitation, like Plato, does not reduce the work of art to mere representation of the real world. In fact, when Aristotle explicitly prefers the probable impossibility to the possible improbability in explaining the mechanism of the plot of tragedy, such a viewpoint entails acknowledging the validity and reliability of the possible literary world and confirming its self-sufficiency. Obviously, adopting such a view requires a formalist reading of Aristotle's theory, a reading that contrasts with the anti-formalist approach prevalent in the mimetic theory. Therefore, the question which arises is on what basis and by what means did Aristotle succeed in merging these two different theories, and does such a view ultimately guarantee the self-sufficiency of the literary work or not? For this reason, the present study, while critically reading the place of imitation theory in Aristotle's thought, analyzes the concept of probable impossibility and according to Aristotle's own statements in the poetics, account for his understanding of as probable impossibility as well as the self-sufficiency of the literary work. Finally, this study shows Aristotle, acknowledging the independence of the literary work and emphasizing the validity of the principle of probability and necessity in shaping the internal logic of the work, still believes in the representation of the real world, although his adherence to the principle of representation requires attention to structure of events and not its content.

McTaggart has argued that any attempt to obtain a consistent mathematical description of the passage of time is doomed to failure: complicating tenses does not eliminate contradiction, rather pushes it back to a more complicated tensed expression. I will argue that one could avoid the hierarchical contradictions in McTaggart's argument against the reality of time: it would be enough to use appropriate semantic models for dealing with tensed sentences, and for placing an order which determines their sequence of truth. Then, I would also argue that there is no meaningful distinction between McTaggart's A and B series, and that the A series requires the B series. Finally, I will introduce the special relativistic correspondence of the McTaggart's series, and argue that Minkowski space-time provides us the frame for constructing the semantic model needed to address temporal expressions in a way that avoids McTaggart's contradictions. Thus it is shown that in the special relativistic description of time, i.e. the Minkowskian model, some of the premises of McTaggart's argument are false; As a result, his argument is not sound.
