In Kant’s view, moral philosophy needs a supplement through which it can prepare people for acting upon purely moral principles and rules. He refers to this supplement as “moral anthropology” in which he conducts an empirical study of the nature of man, instead of considering pure principles. Although Kant believes that pure morality is fundamental and is, therefore, more important than this supplement, he emphasizes as much that this supplement should be recognized in order to apply the achievements of pure morality in men. In this paper, I draw upon a de-scriptive-analytic method to identify the notion of Kant’s moral anthro-pology in light of his pragmatic anthropology and consider its role in his moral philosophy and the realization of the moral. I conclude that, for Kant, moral anthropology prepares the ground for applying the princi-ples of pure morality in more concrete situations, given one’s missions or considering the ways or obstacles to the realization of morality. In order to account for Kant’s moral anthropology, we need first to consider his pragmatic anthropology. His morality is based on experience and is use-ful for ordinary life, and his moral anthropology creates conditions for people in which they can more easily deploy moral principles in their mundane lives.

Of the supernatural doctrines of religions, life after death encounters the significant epistemic-moral question of whether the belief in it is moral or nonmoral. The question might sometimes be asked based on the well-known problem of ethics of belief and analysis of the components of be-lief under moral duties and norms which says that such a belief lacks a plausible epistemic support and is, therefore, nonmoral. And sometimes in consequentialist terms, such a belief is said to give rise to nonmoral outcomes, which is thereby rendered as nonmoral by itself—outcomes such as its entailment of horrors such as punishment, abuses by the powerful, exploitation of ordinary people, justification of social injustic-es, prevention of full-fledged mundane life, putting the fate of the earth at risk, and putting man in place of God. In this paper, I draw upon an analytic-critical method to evaluate the extent to which the belief in af-terlife accompanies such consequences, showing that there is no undeni-able interconnection between the belief in afterlife and such conse-quences, because, for one thing, some of these consequences might not be nonmoral, such as punishment, and for another, most of the un-doubtedly nonmoral consequences are not closely tied to religions and are indeed refuted by religious doctrines, although they are common among religious communities and individuals.

The problem tackled in this research is Mostafa Malekian’s reading of the notion of authenticity. To do so, I have sought to explore Malekian’s views of the notion in his work. I will then draw upon the views of the Canadian philosopher Charles Taylor as a justified reading of the phe-nomenon of authenticity which takes into account both individual and social dimensions of authenticity to analyze and criticize Malekian’s views. The method of research here is that of conceptual analysis, and I have criticized his view with both internal and external methods of criti-cism. The flaws of Malekian’s account include lack of historical insight, confusion of semantic boundaries of concepts, and ignorance of the social dimensions of authenticity.

Having distinguished the chain of prophets and the chain of saints, Sufis characterize the former with indirect communication with God and the latter with direct communication with God. Now the question arises: What is the theoretical ground of the Sufi view that saints other than problems are superior to prophets and talk directly with God? And with what themes such direct communication takes place? In this paper, I try to answer to these two questions, I draw upon the descriptive-analytic method to clarify the notion of Sufi guardianship and consider two As-cension-like experiences in which direct communication with God is claimed: Bāyazīd’s ascension and Ibn ‘Arabī’s ascension. An analysis of these two experiences shows that, first, Sufis believe that it is possible for them to have an experience like that of Prophet Muhammad’s ascen-sion in which they see themselves so existentially close to that there is no intermediary between them and God, either men or angels, and sec-ond, what is central to their communication with God is the identity of the two parties of the communication.

Of alleged Islamic mystics, there are few who have been negligent of sha-ria and have sometimes established their aversion of sharia on reasons. In this descriptive-analytic research, I analyze such aversion, aiming to consider certain deviations among the Sufis and mystics from compli-ance with sharia. Their grounds for aversion of sharia include the follow-ing: (a) the truth is not in need of sharia, which is explicitly or implicitly indicated by some of these mystics; (b) the guardian of the saints is con-trasted to the prophethood of prophets. Certain pseudo-mystics cite had-iths attributed to the Prophet to talk of the infallibility of the saints in the sense that everything is permitted for them; (c) a sacred goal justifies the deployment of non-sharia means. Thus, they believe that certain mystics made love to handsome teenage boys not because of personal lusts, but because of seeing the divine beauty in their faces, and (d) in-toxication removes religious duties. This applies mostly to the so-called “the sane of the insane” whose reason is taken away from them by God and are thus set free from duties.

Infallibility of prophets is a controversial issue considered by Muslim intellectuals in different aspects. Muhammad Shahrur, a contemporary “Quranist,” has cited evidence to show that only the Prophet of Islam has existential infallibility under certain conditions, denying infallibility in the case of other prophets. According to this Syrian intellectual, although the Prophet of Islam is not infallible as a man and as a prophet, his position of messengership involves infallibility. In this claim, he cites certain Quranic verses and rational foundations. In this paper, we cite rational and transmitted evidence to critically consider Shahrur’s claims about the infallibility of prophets with a descriptive-analytic method. We conclude that superficialism about Quranic verses, permission of deploying the rational method based on free reflections, resting content with the Qur’an, and the belief that exegesis is not needed are the major grounds for Shahrur’s inaccurate conception of the infallibility of prophets, which led to eclecticism and personal opinions in interpreting Quranic verses.

A problem in studies of infallibility is whether the reasons for infallibility of one person might be extended to another person without a warrant, or there should be a warrant for such extension. For example, can one extend the reasons for the full-fledged infallibility of Prophet Muhammad and Shiite Imams to past prophets and prove their full-fledged infallibility as well, while there is not warrant for this, and the relevant reasons only established the full-fledged infallibility of Prophet Muhammad and Shiite Imams? A consideration of issues concerning infallibility shows that certain reasons for infallibility are sometimes deployed outside of their proper scope and extended to other people with a cogent reason. Such a mistake sometimes occurs in deploying the reasons for the infallibility of one person to prove the infallibility of another person and sometimes for rejecting the infallibility of a person, instead of rejecting that of another person. This research aims to find gaps in studies of infallibility, showing certain errors that occur therein. We consider the problem with a descriptive and analytic method.
