Spark-ignition (SI) engines are commonly used to produce the power needed for various purposes. Using gasoline-NG dual fuel in these engines and investigating the variations of burned residual gas from the previous cycle in combustion cycles can improve engine operating conditions. The experimental data for the current study were obtained from a single-cylinder SI engine in various spark advances at the compression ratio of 10 and engine speed of 1800 rpm in dual-fuel mode (consisting of mass fraction of 75% gasoline and 25% NG) and stoichiometric equivalence ratio in both skip fire and non-skip fire conditions. The obtained raw data were processed using a computer code to arrive at the in-cylinder pressure versus crank angle diagram and the indicated mean effective pressure. The analysis of ensemble average cycle diagrams obtained from the experimental cycles in optimum spark advances indicated that the in-cylinder pressure variations before peak pressure were greater in skip fire conditions and the difference between optimum spark advances in skip fire and non-skip fire conditions was calculated to be 9 crank angle degree. Standard deviation and coefficient of variations for the indicated mean effective pressure were lower in skip fire conditions; in other words, fewer cyclic variations were observed in skip fire conditions. Furthermore, mass fraction burn variations were higher in skip fire conditions as compared to a non-skip fire condition, which was indicative of faster combustion in the former.

In this study, ethanol and diisopropyl ether were combined with base gasoline in three different volume ratios. The XU7JP/L3 engine was selected to test the effect of fuel additives on engine performance and emission parameters. Engine performance parameters were recorded simultaneously by a computer device at the time of the test, and engine output pollutants were manually recorded by a pollutant meter. The results showed that with the addition of oxygenated additives to gasoline, the oxygen in the fuel-air mixture was increased, the fuel was closer to the stoichiometric conditions and the combustion was more complete. As a result, the enginechr('39')s torque and brake power increased and its brake-specific fuel consumption decreased. Oxygenated additives also reduced carbon monoxide and unburned hydrocarbons and increased carbon dioxide and nitrogen oxides. The results of increasing diisopropyl ether additive compared to ethanol additive in combination with base gasoline also showed that the amount of carbon monoxide, unburned hydrocarbon, and nitrogen oxide pollutants is higher and the amount of carbon dioxide production is lower.

The calibration of modern internal combustion engines is complex and requires a lot of time and cost on the test bench. A large number of calibration parameters and a tradeoff between fuel consumption and emissions make calibration a complex multi-objective optimization problem. The purpose of this article is the development of calibration and model-based optimization techniques for internal combustion engines to reduce calibration time and cost and improve optimization accuracy. This paper focuses on empirical modeling of engines and optimization concerning emissions standards and fuel consumption. To identify the combustion models, a modeling toolbox is developed with an intelligent identification method. To optimize the data collection, the design of experiment methods is reviewed and appropriate methods are selected to collect information with the minimum data from all over the design space. Finally, a study is performed on the EF7 engine in the test room of IPCO and it is shown that the number of experimental data is reduced from 5500 data to 1500 data with the help of the design of experiment by Sobol method and modeling by a deep neural network. so, the virtual engine can replace the real engine in the calibration process.

A significant percentage of the heating value of the fuel is lost in the form of hot exhaust gases from the vehicle exhaust system. In recent developments, thermoelectric materials have been developed with high efficiency, simplicity, and good strength, and the tendency to use this technology to directly convert wasted heat into electricity has increased. Vehicle heat generators are one of the applications of this technology. In the present paper, a vehicle thermoelectric generator model was first confirmed with experimental data, and then changes were made to the parameters that affect the fuel economy and output power of the vehicle thermoelectric generator. The design that produces the maximum output power is different from the design that produces the most fuel economy. Backpressure was identified as the most important factor in fuel consumption. Different parameters were examined, each of which had different effects on fuel consumption and power output, and finally, a model was obtained that could reduce the overall fuel consumption by 0.07 in the vehicle at rest.

The main aim of the current study is a comprehensive investigation of the different effects of EGR on n-heptane lean homogeneous combustion. Achieving the goal, a thermodynamic multi-zone model coupled to a semi-detailed chemical kinetics mechanism is utilized. A single-zone model is used for the simulation of the gas exchange process. Due to lean combustion, N2, O2, H2O, and CO2 are considered as the main products of combustion, and their thermal, chemical and dilution effects are studied using the artificial inert species method. An HCCI engine is considered as the combustion chamber and n-heptane is the used fuel. At first, the model is validated against the experimental data and then different values of EGR are added to the in-cylinder mixture, and its thermal, dilution and chemical effects are discussed. The results show that for lean low-temperature combustion the dilution effect of EGR is more significant than its chemical and thermal effects. N2 and H2O have more significant thermal effects on HCCI combustion of a very lean mixture and lean mixture. The dilution effects of O2 is different from other species because it participates in chemical reactions.

The velocity of the fluid in every location of the water jacket has a direct relation with the rate of heat transfer. Approximately one-third of fuel heat release in an IC engine is lost to the environment by coolant flow. So, it is necessary to determine the velocity of coolant according to the rate of heat transfer. The water jacket of an engine has complex and non-transparent geometry and it is impossible to measure velocity in each location. In this paper, the velocity of coolant is measured in a transparent water-jacket of the EF7 engine with the PIV method. A volumetric flow rate of coolant is determined according to engine speed that two engine speeds considered in this research. In the PIV method with the dispersion of special submerged particles in coolant on a transparent water jacket and shining of the laser beam to particles, it is possible to track them. Then, with image processing, velocity vectors are carried out with the toolbox of the Matlab program. Extraction of results of the can is used for the study of fluid behavior. Besides experimental work, simulation with Fluent software was done for comparison between results.
