    Introduction

By applying pressure to igneous rocks such as gabbro and granite, the variation of electrical parameters of the related samples is investigated. Applying pressure by using a hydraulic pressure device triggers a chemical and physical process in the samples in which electron-hole pairs are created. By measuring the time-dependent current variations in terms of pressure, electric current equations, the surface electric potential difference of the sample, as well as the electric and magnetic fields are obtained.

    Methodology and Approaches:

The pressure on the samples is increased uniformly, and then it is applied in a constant behavior and thus decreases uniformly. By applying pressure on the Gabbro stone under pressure, the electric current function of the sample was calculated. Finally, the equations of the electric and magnetic fields were obtained.

    Results and Conclusions

It is shown that the electromagnetic waves are due to the positively charged holes created by breaking the peroxy bonds in the rock. The results of this paper can be used as a method to detect pressure variation for under-pressure systems, such as walls and roofs of mines and buildings, as well as a pressure variation in earthquake tectonic layers. It can also be a method with high accuracy in earthquake prediction.

    Introduction

Despite the economic benefits of using explosives, the damage caused by rock blasting changes the mechanical properties of rock masses and causes unavoidable problems. Therefore, it is necessary to determine the damage caused by blasting the rock around the tunnels. Several important types of research have been done on the design parameters of blasting on rock damage and evaluated the extent of blast damage using the maximum particle velocity method or numerical simulations to study the response of underground structures exposed to the blasting. In this study, due to the efficiency of the LS_DYNA software in simulating problems with the high strain rate and solver speed in three-dimensional problems used.

    Methodology and Approaches:

In this study, a tunnel under blasting loads based on finite element methods was modeled and the influence of characteristics such as tunnel depth, number, and diameter of blasting holes were investigated on D. Modeling was conducted by LS-DYNA hydro code. Here, the optional Eulerian-Lagrangian (ALE) and Lagrangian solution algorithms are used for blast materials and rock materials, respectively. To simulate the rock, due to the absence of Hoek-Brown failure criteria, the Mohr-Columb behavioral model was used.

    Results and Conclusions

In this research, an attempt was made to study the effect of damage factor (D) in a tunnel with a diameter of 5 m, and the borehole pressure due to the blasting was simulated based on the JWL equation in the LS-DYNA hydro code. In this regard, the effect of various parameters such as tunnel depth, number, and diameter of blasting holes on the Hoek-Brown disturbance factor was investigated. The results showed that D increases with increasing the number of blasting holes because the dynamic wave created by the blasting load increases. For example, by increasing the number of holes from 26 to 36 holes that will explode simultaneously in a delay damage zone will increase from about 4 meters to 7.5 meters. As the diameter of the blast holes increases the severe damage zone will increase. Therefore, for wall holes, it is necessary to reduce the diameter of the hole and the weight of the explosive charge as much as possible. As the depth of the tunnel increases, D will decrease. If the pressure of the surrounding rock is reduced from 0 to 30 MPa, the thickness of the severe damage zone will be reduced from 4 m to 1 m.

    Introduction

Due to the lack of a suitable model for estimating tunnel face pressure in the serviceability limit state, a comprehensive research study is conducted for Tehran metro tunnels. In this context, by using numerical modeling with Plaxis 3D V20 software, as well as by performing validation and sensitivity analysis, and by considering the parameters affecting the surface settlement in the area of Tehran soils, a new method for estimating tunnel face pressure is provided in the serviceability limit state. This method is based on the statistical analysis of the results of 80 numerical models whose range of parameter values is adjusted according to the range of Tehran soil parameters.

    Methodology and Approaches:

In this research study, Plaxis 3D V20 software is used for numerical modeling. In the modeling stages, in order to make the modeling results closer to reality, the step-by-step construction process of tunnel excavation has been followed. In order to validate and check the correctness of the 3D numerical modeling, the data of the Southern Extension Tehran Metro Line 6, as well as the results of instrumentation and monitoring, have been used. In the end, multiple regression analysis has been used to investigate the combined effect of effective parameters on the tunnel face stability number using the results of numerical modeling.

    Results and Conclusions

In the validation of numerical modeling, in geological sections whose settlement is less than 8 mm, modeling in an undrained state provides more consistent results with the actual settlement information. In the geological sections whose settlement is more than 8 mm, modeling in a drained state provides more consistent results with the actual settlement information. A new empirical formula for the estimation of the tunnel face stability number has been obtained using multiple regression methods in the drained state. The determination coefficient of this formula is 68%. Also, three formulas for estimating the stability number were obtained using simple regression formulas.

    Introduction

Distinguishing between anomalous and background communities and determining the threshold of geochemical communities are usually done by structural and non-structural methods. The U spatial statistical method is one of the structural methods for geochemical anomaly separation, which is known for its high capabilities in determining geochemical anomalous areas in mineral exploration. In this investigation, U statistics, S-A, and C-A fractal methods have been used for modeling Pb-contaminated areas.

    Methodology and Approaches:

The geochemical distribution maps have fractal dimensions. Fractal dimensions of the anomaly and the background will be different from each other, which are used to separate the anomaly from the background. The S-A fractal method has been performed on the geochemical data in the frequency domain. The geochemical log-log diagram of the power spectrum values and cumulative areas is delineated, and straight lines are fitted on the diagram to show the trends of fractal populations. The U-spatial statistics method is a kind of moving averaging method that changes the dimensions of the window in which the averaging takes place at any specific point. Therefore, for each particular point, several U statistic values are calculated using the surrounding points, thus the spatial relationship of the samples is completely considered.

    Results and Conclusions

In this study, the Pb contaminations resulting from the distribution of this element in the surrounding areas of the Irankuh mine have been investigated. The C-A, S-A fractal, and U statistics methods were performed for pollution anomaly mapping. Four geochemical communities with different dimensions were obtained using C-A fractal method. The higher fractal dimensions are associated with Pb contamination of mining activities or human impacts and are known as anomalous communities. The communities with lower fractal dimensions are considered as background. The results of the fractal method show that the source of contamination has originated from the mine area and dispersed in the surrounding areas. The S-A fractal method separated the frequency signals in 4 geochemical communities. The population 2 including medium to low-frequency signals properly determined the contamination locations. The geochemical community with high concentrations correctly determined the contamination districts around the mining activities and tailings dam using U modeling. The middle community showed the agricultural and residential lands have a smaller contamination halo than other methods.

    Introduction

The explosion of explosives in the blast-hole can apply very high pressure to the surrounding rock media. The pressure can cause to propagate cracks and fractures and eventually fragment and destroy them. Rock blasting, like other dynamic phenomena, needs to propagate waves and dynamic stresses through the body. Therefore, the study of the propagation of waves is of great importance in understanding the subsequent effects of rock blasting. For this purpose, an analytical algorithm is used to obtain the appropriate Green functions to achieve the best description of the problem. To solve the blast-induced wave propagation problem.

    Methodology and Approaches:

A two-dimensional elastodynamic Green's function has been analytically derived. Firstly, Navier's equations of motion and explosion equations have been used as governing equations. Then, using the Helmholtz theory, the Navier equations have been separated into two scleral and vector fields in terms of displacement. Explosion pressure as a body force has been added to the equations using the Poisson function. After performing the relevant calculations and solving the above equations, the corresponding Green function in terms of displacement is obtained. Moreover, a time-dependent green function is developed for the particle velocity using the basic functions and the resulting green function. After finding the appropriate Green functions, a typical problem consisting of a blast-hole in an elastic homogenous isotropic infinite rock media has been investigated and modeled. Finally, to validate, a real problem has been analytically modeled and solved using the proposed solution.

    Results and Conclusions

Its results have been compared with results from a finite element-discrete element numerical method and the explosion reality results. Based on the results of the comparison, there is a good agreement between the analytical, experimental, and numerical results at different distances from the blast-hole. A good match between the analytical results of this study and the experimental and numerical results of previous studies shows the validity of the proposed method and confirms the Green function obtained in this study. In general, it can be said that this method can be used to study the propagation of elastic waves in rock and rock-like materials. Also, it can be utilized from the resulting Green functions in other methods for different purposes as an input dynamic function.

    Introduction

The collapse of blocks is one of the most important issues in the stability and design of underground. However, most of the studies have been performed to stabilize the underground spaces by rock bolts in continuous environments with regular joint networks and in two dimensions. This study presents a procedure to investigate the stability of underground spaces in three dimensions in rock mass with irregular discontinuities by stochastic discrete fracture network (DFN) method evaluating the effect of bolt length and spacing on the stability of underground structures.

    Methodology and Approaches:

The purpose of this study is to provide a process to optimize the bolting pattern in the support system. For this, the geomechanical data of Clab2 cavern located in the Sympivarp region, Sweden was utilized. This cavern has a depth, length. Width and height of 30, 115, 21, and 27 meters with a horseshoe section. The joint studies in the area identified six joint sets around the cavern. Ten DFN realizations were generated along with different patterns of bolting systems with various lengths and spacing. The rock bolts used in this research have lengths of 3, 6 and 9 meters with a longitudinal and transverse distance of 2 meters.

    Results and Conclusions

The effect of a particular supporting system on various discontinuity networks is different, which can be significantly effective or ineffective in some discontinuity networks. This shows the need to apply and examine support systems on different discontinuity networks to achieve the optimal pattern. In this study, a new trend is presented to achieve the optimal pattern based on the total volume of unstable blocks and the volume of which 80% of unstable blocks are smaller, along with the total length of the used bolts. The results show that the stability of the cavern in using the bolt support system does not necessarily increase using longer rock bolts. Initially, increasing the length of the bolts increases the stability, however after a certain length, increasing the length of the bolts no longer significantly improves the stability of the structure. Therefore, considering the economic criteria, the 6-meter model is the best model for stabilizing the desired cave.

    Introduction

Considering the extent of unconventional gas reservoirs and the exigency of optimal production from these resources, the design of hydraulic fracturing operation according to the geomechanical aspects is the most important step in the exploitation of these resources. Oil and gas sources differ from each other in many aspects, such as the shape of source and reservoir rocks, mechanisms of formation, penetration, distribution and occurrence. Unconventional reservoirs are resources that cannot be exploited economically with conventional resource extraction methods.

    Methodology and Approaches:

Before drilling, the reservoir is in equilibrium, and no special stress causes the reservoir to collapse, but after the drilling operation, stresses are applied to the reservoir as induced stresses, which cause the loss of balance and instability in the wellbore. In this regard, the greater the distance from the center of the well, the stresses will decrease. Knowing the direction of minimum and maximum horizontal stresses helps engineers to predict the possibility of casing collapse.

    Results and Conclusions

Due to the low permeability of the unconventional gas reservoirs to achieve optimal production from these sources, geomechanical parameters are of particular importance. To increase production from these sources, one of the most widely used operations worldwide is a hydraulic fracture. One of the important components in studying the propagation of hydraulic fissures is the difference in horizontal stresses. According to what has been obtained based on geomechanical studies in Roseneath and Murteree formations, for reservoir rocks with low horizontal stress such as sandstone reservoirs, the fracture pressure of the formation is much lower. However, the shale reservoir with more horizontal stress has more failure pressure and the fracture in these reservoirs has less expansion. On the other hand, studies in the Montney Formation indicate that Poisson's ratio and Young's modulus affect the characteristics of shales such as their fragility. In this regard, a formation with a lower Young's modulus is more difficult to fracture and is not considered a suitable option for hydraulic fracturing operations.
