Static bone scan was performed in 46 patients for evaluation of ocular Hydroxyapatite Vascularization. Study Findings indicated that bone scan, with TC-99m MDP is an appropriate method for evaluation of Hydroxyapatite Vascularization and for estimating the time For peg insertion into the Hydroxyapatite implant. Our study showed proper Hydroxyapatite Vascularization when the ratio of activity in implanted to the normal orbit is greater than 1.12 with uninform tracer distribution.

This study was done in research institute of nuclear medicine from 1988-1992 for evaluation of the value of serum thyroglobulin level in comparison with 1-131 whole body scan (1-131 WBS) in patients with differentiated thyroid carcinoma. 204 patients who had total or near total thyroidectomy treated with 1-131 were evaluated in this study. Out of 204 patients 136 did not have regional or distant metastases. 68 patients had recurrence and metastases in which 42 cases showed good correlation between hTG and 1-131 WBS. In 14 cases with recurrence and metastases only 1-131 WBS was diagnostic and in 12 cases hTG was diagnostic while 1-131 WBS was negative. With the help of other diagnostic modolities such as Tl-201, chest X-ray biopsy and repeated 1-131 WBS during 5 years of follow-up regional recurrence and metastases were diagnosed. Serum hTG level for diagnosis of recurrence and metastases hud a sensitivity of 79.4%, specificity 90.4% and accuracy of 86.8% while 1-131 WBS had sensitivity of 82.3%, accuracy of 94.1% and specificity of 100%.

Ectopic paratliyroid adenoma might create a clinical dilemma in patients with hypercalcemia. Radioisotopic scan is a sensitive and noninvasive method which can be useful in these patients. In this report a case of ectopic parathyroid adenoma is presented and the usefulness of TC-99m-MIBI scintigraphy as compared with other modalities is discussed.

A 13 years old boy with severe abdominal pain and history of intermittent (II bleeding since the aye of 3 months, is presented. Different diagnostic procedures were unremarkable. A Tc-99m Pertechnetate abdominal study revealed abnormal radionuclide accumulation in small bowel region. Duplication of small bowel was suspected which was confirmed by surgery and pathologic examination.

Radioiodine (1-131) is the treatment of choice in differentiated thyroid carcinoma. External radiotlierapy however, has it''s own roie in these tumors. Treatment of anaplastic thyroid carcinoma 1ms not acliieved any notahle success yet, though combined - modality regimens of radiotherapy and chemotherapy have sometimes shown significant results. In this paper the role of radiotlierapy and chemotherapy in differentiated and anaplastic thyroid carcinoma and also thyroid medullary carcinoma and lymphoma is reviewed.

A 14 years old girl, with documented Ewing''s sarcoma, was treated by both chemotherapy and surgery. An initial bone scan (TC-99m-MI)I*) did not reveal a renal lesion. However, following therapeutic irradiation, there was retention of the bone imaging agent in a portion of the kidney that had been included in the radiation field. This reflected the effects of radiation related parenchymal alteration rather than retention of the bone imaging agent due to outflow tract obstruction, or to the presence of tumor.

The common use of maternal ultrasonography has increased the apparent incidence of neonatal hydronephrosis. Many of these cases are found to have partial obstruction at the ureteropelvic junction (UPJ). These patients are safely managed in our institution with careful observation and only occasionally require surgical intervention. The authors present two contrasting cases of suspected UPJ obstruction in the neonatal period. The diagnostic evaluation and management in these two patients with similar presentation and markedly different outcome are discussed. The role of various imaging modalities including voiding cystourethrography (VCUG), intravenous pyelography (rVP), ultrasonography (US) and diuretic radionuclide renography was discussed. The relationship of normalized renal uptake and diuretic clearance half-time (Tl/2) with outcome was examined in 50 patients with prenatally diagnosed hydronephrosis. The normalized uptake value is the fraction of the total Tc99m DTPA extracted by each kidney between 60 and 120 seconds following the injection of the patient There was a statistically significant difference in the renal uptake and Tl/2 in those kidneys that subsequently required surgery compared to those wtich were managed conservatively. The predictive value of renal uptake and Tl/2 in identifying those patients who require surgical correction is not yet fully defined.
