A Comparative Approach to Persian and Arabic Lullabies

Lullabies are the first instances of female oral literature that are considered to be a part of the folklore of every language and culture. Lullabies originate from social, political, cultural, religious, and geographical conditions. The present article aims to analyse and compare traditional Persian and Arabic lullabies. Every lullaby is named after its content. Persian and Arabic have some common political male and female lullabies. Some lullabies are unique to Persian literature, such as the lullabies which reveal a mother’s fear of having a rival, seasonal lullabies, and lullabies that refer to the letters written to mothers or fathers when they are away. Pride lullabies and religious lullabies are unique to Arab mothers.
