Triangle of Relations between Iran, Germany and the European Union

This article studies the role and status of Iran in German foreign policy towards the Islamic Republic of Iran. In fact, the main goal of this article is to explore the issue that can Iran exploit Germany's potentials for developing its relations with the EU, reducing tensions with it and meeting its needs for its industrial sector and technological investments. It can be said that since the past 150 years, a kind of special relations have been forged between Iran and Germany that even crucial political developments have not prevented them to expand. Although, Germany plays a key role in expanding Iran-EU relations, some deterring factors such as increasing tension between Iran and Western countries, especially the U.S. and Britain, on issues like Iran's nuclear activities could make Germany's efforts less affective or even neutralized.
