Relationship between Alxithymia, Personality Characteristics and Burnout in Female Teachers

This study aimed to investigate the relationship between alxithymia, personality characteristics and burnout in female teachers. The study population included all female teachers in Kermanshah, instruction District. Using cluster sampling, 300 subjects were selected. For data collection, Toronto Alexithymia Inventory, NEO Five-Factor personality and Maslach Burnout were used. The present study was conducted with a correlational method and data were analyzed by multiple regression method. The findings of the study indicated that there was a positive relationship between components of alexithymia (difficulty in identifying feelings, difficulty in describing feelings, and objective thinking) and job burnout. Besides, there was a positive relationship between neuroticism and job burnout. There was a negative relationship between extroversion and job burnout. There was a positive relationship between conscientiousness and job burnout as well as a negative relationship between flexibility and job burnout. Difficulty in feeling identification, difficulty in feeling description, nearoticism, extroversion, and conscientiousness could be heped predict job burnout. Therefore, using appropriate strategies, it could help occupational situational health and reducing teachers’ job burnout.
