Relationship between Family coherence and Flexibility and Identity Style by Mediating Role of Metacognitive State in Female Students
Author(s):
Abstract:
The aim of the present study was to investigate the relationship between family coherence and flexibility and identity styles by mediating role of metacognitive state in female students. Therefore, using cluster sampling, 306 female students were selected from highschools in Kazeroon. They were tested by the metacognitive state questionnaire, Berzonsky Identity Style questionnaire (2004), Shakeri family flexibility (2003) and Samani family coherence. Results of path analysis by LISREL software showed that family flexibility directly impacted on the informational, normative and confused-avoidance identity style and metacognitive state. Family coherence had a direct effect on metacognitive state and normative identity style. On the other hand, family coherence and flexibility had an indirect effect through metacognitive state. The results illustrate the importance of metacognition instruction in the family and in schools, to create better conditions for the identification process.
