British interventions in Iran's internal affairs during the years of occupation (1941-1945) based on archival evidence

Abstract:
Purpose
The fall of Reza Shah (1925-1941) following the occupation of Iran by the Allied Forces during WWII, had economic, political and social consequences, one being interventions by British diplomacy in Iranians internal affairs. The influence of the British government in Iran, which changed ovner time relative to the strength or weaknesses of the Iranian government. was intensified by the occupation. This paper explores dimensions of that influence during 1941-1945 based on archival documents in the National Archives of Iran.Method/Research Design: Library and archives resources were used to prepare this paper.
Findings: By signing a trilateral agreement in Tehran, UK, US, and the Soviet Union implicitly allowed the UK to intervene in Iranians internal affairs. This caused disruption in commerce, confusion in public administration, censorship in the media as well as in postal and telecommunication services.
