The Relationship between Mindfulness and Self-reference Traits

Mindfulness as a psychological construct is free of bias and judgment but self-reference traits, giving better information to oneself, affected by the bias, Therefore, this study aimed to investigate the relationship between mindfulness and self-reference traits. The present research was conducted with a correlational design. The statistical populations of this study was all undergraduate and postgraduate students of Shahid Beheshti University in Tehran. Using a multi-stage cluster sampling 280 subjects were selected. Research instruments were Mindfulness questionnaire (MAAS) and the lists of self-reference and others traits. Data were analyzed by using Pearson's correlation coefficient. Findings showed that in description and assignment of traits to oneself, individuals use more positive traits than others. Furthermore, the level of recognition of positive self-reference traits is more than recognition of positive traits is referred to the other (9/27 vs. 8).
